When my friend bought this ABBA CD, I started teasing him about it, and he got real defensive & explained how he grew up listening to this music, and how he really liked it, etc. etc....I let him rant & rave for about 5 minutes before telling him, "Hey man, it's okay, I like ABBA too..."

In fact, it amazes me how many metal fans like this band. To say nothing of metal artists themselves: Helloween covered "Lay All Your Love on Me" for Metal Jukebox; Mental Crypt completely butchers "Money, Money, Money" on A Black Mark Tribute II (not that it was a good song to begin with); Yngwie J. Malmsteen recently did a cover for "Gimme Gimme Gimme", but unfortunately I forgot to download the mp3 for it; the band Morgana LeFay did a NICE version of "Voulez Vous" (which got tacked on to the Eponymous + More collection); and, of course, there's that oh-so-elusive "Black Gold" metal tribute...

"The Winner Takes It All" is easily my favorite song here...also getting thumbs-up from me are "Waterloo", "Dancing Queen", "Lay All Your Love...", "Take a Chance on Me", even the seemingly dumb "Chiquita" and "Fernando". Some real clunkers do exist, however: "Mamma Mia" and a few other tracks annoy the hell out of me. Oh yeah, here's something interesting: the chorus of "S.O.S." includes a melody that was stolen in Roger Hodgson's "Sleeping with the Enemy"!

Of course, my friend later bought the less impressive follow-up, "More ABBA Gold" -- now I think he's truly nuts!
