AC/DC

Ok, you already know who these guys are...at least you should...

AC/DC also has a song on the Last Action Hero soundtrack.

"T.N.T." (Australian import)

  1. "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock 'n' Roll)" (5:16)
  2. "Rock 'n' Roll Singer" (5:05)
  3. "The Jack" (5:52)
  4. "Live Wire" (5:51)
  5. "T.N.T." (3:36)
  6. "Rocker" (2:51)
  7. "Can I Sit Next to You Girl" (4:12)
  8. "High Voltage" (4:19)
  9. "School Days" (5:23)

That loud THUMP you heard on March 9th, 2001, was my jaw hitting the floor when I walked into Moby Disc Records and found this used CD staring me right in the face!!! Long out of print, and only available as an Australian import, this is AC/DC's first (or second?) full album, which was repackaged with an alternate track listing as the domestic version of High Voltage. The two extra tracks are "Rocker" (identical to the Dirty Deeds version, as far as I can tell) and Chuck Berry's "School Days", which was never released anywhere else!

"High Voltage"

  1. "It's a Long Way to the Top (if You Want to Rock 'n' Roll)" (5:10)
  2. "Rock 'n' Roll Singer" (5:00)
  3. "The Jack" (5:50)
  4. "Live Wire" (5:45)
  5. "T.N.T." (3:30)
  6. "Can I Sit Next to You Girl" (4:06)
  7. "Little Lover" (5:26)
  8. "She's Got Balls" (4:46)
  9. "High Voltage" (4:18)

The earliest AC/DC album that was released in the United States. Actually most of these tracks are from the Australian-only release T.N.T., with "Little Lover" and "She's Got Balls" being the only cuts from the Austrailian version of High Voltage, a different ball of wax altogether.

Pat Boone does a cover of "It's a Long Way to the Top" on his hilarious In a Metal Mood album. Iced Earth and Lemmy have also covered it.

"'74 Jailbreak"

  1. "Jailbreak" (4:40)
  2. "You Ain't Got a Hold on Me" (3:30)
  3. "Show Business" (4:43)
  4. "Soul Stripper" (6:23)
  5. "Baby, Please Don't Go" (4:50)

An EP featuring some (but of course not ALL) cuts from the Australian High Voltage that weren't released on the domestic version. Which means someday I'll have to special-order that fuckin' CD so I can complete my AC/DC collection...

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"

  1. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (3:46)
  2. "Love at First Feel" (3:05)
  3. "Big Balls" (2:39)
  4. "Rocker" (2:46)
  5. "Problem Child" (5:43)
  6. "There's Gonna Be Some Rockin'" (3:14)
  7. "Ain't No Fun Waiting Round to be a Millionaire" (6:57)
  8. "Ride On" (5:47)
  9. "Squealer" (5:12)

"Dirty Deeds" was the first AC/DC song I ever heard, way back in junior high school, and the kids on the school bus would go completely ga-ga every time the radio played it! And though I was loathe to admit it, I didn't find it half bad either... Then of course there's the classic "Big Balls" track, which you have to hear to believe...

The song "Dirty Deeds" has also been covered by Exodus.

"Let There Be Rock"

  1. "Go Down" (5:20)
  2. "Dog Eat Dog" (3:30)
  3. "Let There Be Rock" (6:12)
  4. "Bad Boy Boogie" (4:29)
  5. "Problem Child" (5:50)
  6. "Overdose" (6:03)
  7. "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" (4:20)
  8. "Whole Lotta Rosie" (5:27)

One thing about AC/DC that's always grated on me is how Angus Young only seems to know three damn guitar chords. Thus a lot of their music gets on my nerves to this day, and "Whole Lotta Rosie" (which has been covered by W.A.S.P.) tops the list. I still have yet to get used to that one...

"Overdose" has been covered by Exodus; "Let There Be Rock" was covered by Onslaught.

"Powerage"

  1. "Rock 'N' Roll Damnation" (3:35)
  2. "Down Payment Blues" (6:00)
  3. "Gimme a Bullet" (3:21)
  4. "Riff Raff" (5:14)
  5. "Sin City" (4:40)
  6. "What's Next to the Moon" (3:28)
  7. "Gone Shootin'" (5:04)
  8. "Up To My Neck in You" (4:10)
  9. "Kicked in the Teeth" (3:52)

Used to think this was their 2nd album, but closely checking the release dates fixed that up (geez, imagine the embarassment if I got these things out of order???) "Down Payment Blues" is my favorite of all AC/DC songs.

"Record Bar Convention, Nashville 8/8/78" (CDR bootleg)

  1. "Introduction" (2:19)
  2. "Live Wire" (6:25)
  3. "Problem Child" (4:37)
  4. "Sin City" (5:02)
  5. "Gone Shootin'" (5:59)
  6. "Whole Lotta Rosie" (4:51)
  7. "Rocker" (7:33)

This bootleg's rather interesting as it's recorded at a record industry convention, so instead of women screaming and taking off their shirts, the audience just sits there going, "What the FUCK?!?" No matter, the Aussie boys put on a hell of a show regardless. It's also curious to hear the M.C. tell them to stick around for the band LeRoux, pimpin' them as the next great band that will be remembered forever...uh, who again?

"If You Want Blood...You've Got It" (live album)

  1. "Riff Raff" (5:58)
  2. "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" (4:10)
  3. "Bad Boy Boogie" (7:26)
  4. "The Jack" (5:49)
  5. "Problem Child" (4:36)
  6. "Whole Lotta Rosie" (4:08)
  7. "Rock 'N' Roll Damnation" (3:40)
  8. "High Voltage" (5:04)
  9. "Let There Be Rock" (8:32)
  10. "Rocker" (3:12)

Haha, I remember first seeing this album cover when I was about ten years old, still young and impressionable enough to believe that Angus Young REALLY DID IMPALE HIMSELF WITH A GUITAR during the band's live shows! Years later, I would gross out my Christian friends by showing it to them...and the ironic thing is, I never *ever* listened to the damn thing, at least not that I can remember! (Of course, it wasn't until AC/DC Live came out that I truly appreciated these guys as a live band...see comments below...)

One other thing...the time listings on the CD are waaaayyy off...I fixed them, tank you beddy much. :)

"Highway to Hell"

  1. "Highway to Hell" (3:26)
  2. "Girls Got Rhythm" (3:23)
  3. "Walk All Over You" (5:08)
  4. "Touch Too Much" (4:24)
  5. "Beating Around the Bush" (3:55)
  6. "Shot Down in Flames" (3:21)
  7. "Get It Hot" (2:24)
  8. "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" (4:32)
  9. "Love Hungry Man" (4:14)
  10. "Night Prowler" (6:13)

Hmm, these guys aren't Satanic, aren't they? :) This was another album that took a long time to get used to and still puts my teeth on edge sometimes. Also this was the last album recorded with vocalist Bon Scott, who died shortly after it was released. (I never liked his singing much anyway.) Iced Earth has covered the title track.

"Back in Black"

  1. "Hells Bells" (5:09)
  2. "Shoot to Thrill" (5:14)
  3. "What Do You Do for Money Honey" (3:33)
  4. "Given the Dog a Bone" (3:30)
  5. "Let Me Put My Love into You" (4:12)
  6. "Back in Black" (4:13)
  7. "You Shook Me All Night Long" (3:28)
  8. "Have a Drink on Me" (3:57)
  9. "Shake a Leg" (4:03)
  10. "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" (4:12)

With new vocalist Brian Johnson and a slightly refined sound, this album was the band's big American breakthrough. "Back in Black" was always one of my favorites, and so is "Shoot to Thrill"; most of the rest still hasn't grown on me yet. Some of the titles here are fuckin' hilarious!

"For Those About to Rock We Salute You"

  1. "For Those About to Rock We Salute You" (5:44)
  2. "Put the Finger on You" (3:26)
  3. "Let's Get It Up" (3:54)
  4. "Inject the Venom" (3:31)
  5. "Snowballed" (3:23)
  6. "Evil Walks" (4:24)
  7. "C.O.D." (3:19)
  8. "Breaking the Rules" (4:23)
  9. "Night of the Long Knives" (3:26)
  10. "Spellbound" (4:30)

Remember the "For Those About to..." video which fired off massive cannons at the end? Kinda puts Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture to shame, doesn't it?

"Flick of the Switch"

  1. "Rising Power" (3:43)
  2. "This House Is On Fire" (3:23)
  3. "Flick of the Switch" (3:17)
  4. "Nervous Shakedown" (4:22)
  5. "Landslide" (3:56)
  6. "Guns for Hire" (3:25)
  7. "Deep in the Hole" (3:17)
  8. "Bedlam in Belgium" (3:48)
  9. "Badlands" (3:37)
  10. "Brain Shake" (4:00)

I sorta like this album better than most of their others, though it was never that popular with the fans.

"Fly on the Wall"

  1. "Fly on the Wall" (3:43)
  2. "Shake Your Foundations" (4:08)
  3. "First Blood" (3:40)
  4. "Danger" (4:22)
  5. "Sink the Pink" (4:14)
  6. "Playing with Girls" (3:44)
  7. "Stand Up" (3:53)
  8. "Hell or High Water" (4:31)
  9. "Back in Business" (4:22)
  10. "Send for the Man" (3:26)

Grungy, down-and-dirty, this album is probably the least accessible AC/DC ever put out. Now, tell me...what exactly is the song "Playing with Girls" about? Kinda makes you wonder... oh well, could be worse, could have been "Playing with Boys"!!

"Who Made Who" (Maximum Overdrive soundtrack)

  1. "Who Made Who" (3:26)
  2. "You Shook Me All Night Long" (3:28)
  3. "D.T."--instrumental (2:56)
  4. "Sink the Pink" (4:14)
  5. "Ride On" (5:47)
  6. "Hells Bells" (5:09)
  7. "Shake Your Foundations" (4:08)
  8. "Chase the Ace"--instrumental (3:01)
  9. "For Those About to Rock We Salute You" (5:44)

This was the music put to the Stephen King film Maximum Overdrive, and come to think, the ONLY redeeming quality of that movie! Except for the title track and two instrumentals, all the songs are identical to the previously released versions, which basically makes it a "best of" compilation. Oh yes, one more annoyance...there was an extended version of "Who Made Who" that played on the radio a lot (and still can be heard from time to time), but the CD here has the crappy short version! In fact, that "special collector's mix" is available on NO CD I know of, and I couldn't even find it on Napster...so in the summer of '01 I wound up trading for the original 12" single on CRAPPY VINYL. Good Lord, I *never* thought I'd deal in vinyl again, wonders never cease.

"Blow Up Your Video"

  1. "Heatseeker" (3:50)
  2. "That's the Way I Wanna Rock N Roll" (3:43)
  3. "Meanstreak" (4:10)
  4. "Go Zone" (4:25)
  5. "Kissin' Dynamite" (4:02)
  6. "Nick of Time" (4:17)
  7. "Some Sin for Nuthin'" (4:13)
  8. "Ruff Stuff" (4:30)
  9. "Two's Up" (5:19)
  10. "This Means War" (4:23)

Used to see this one in the used bins ALL the time, but never bought it coz I was waiting for it to drop below $7.99 (except for the first 2 tracks, this is truly their weakest album.) Well, as time went by, the price never went down but the number available & overall quality did...and soon I found the reason why. Turns out this CD was *deleted* from AC/DC's catalog, for no apparent reason!! (Still can get the cassette, but puh-leeze...) From then on I never saw it, EVER. Well, years passed and finally I stumbled upon Second Spin, who had a nice stack of 'em available. Cool deal, now I can stop tearing my hair out over this hole in my collection. :-) (Now about those imports...)

"The Razor's Edge"

  1. "Thunderstruck" (4:52)
  2. "Fire Your Guns" (2:53)
  3. "Moneytalks" (3:45)
  4. "The Razor's Edge" (4:22)
  5. "Mistress for Christmas" (3:58)
  6. "Rock Your Heart Out" (4:06)
  7. "Are You Ready" (4:10)
  8. "Got You by the Balls" (4:29)
  9. "Shot of Love" (3:57)
  10. "Let's Make It" (3:32)
  11. "Goodbye & Good Ridance to Bad Luck" (3:14)
  12. "If You Dare" (3:11)

On this album, longtime sticks-wielder Simon Wright left to join Dio, and was replaced by session drummer Chris Slade (who played with The Firm.) Not much in the way of anything new and different here, "Thunderstruck" is okay but the rest is the same typical schlock the band has been putting out for the last 12 years. I haven't even heard anything off of Ballbreaker yet, and I'm not inclined to, either!

"AC/DC Live" (2CD special collector's edition)
    disc one:
  1. "Thunderstruck" (6:34)
  2. "Shoot to Thrill" (5:23)
  3. "Back in Black" (4:28)
  4. "Sin City" (5:40)
  5. "Who Made Who" (5:16)
  6. "Heatseeker" (3:37)
  7. "Fire Your Guns" (3:40)
  8. "Jailbreak" (14:43)
  9. "The Jack" (6:56)
  10. "The Razor's Edge" (4:35)
  11. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (5:02)
  12. "Moneytalks" (4:21)
    disc two:
  1. "Hells Bells" (6:01)
  2. "Are You Ready" (4:34)
  3. "That's the Way I Wanna Rock 'N' Roll" (3:57)
  4. "High Voltage" (10:32)
  5. "You Shook Me All Night Long" (3:54)
  6. "Whole Lotta Rosie" (4:30)
  7. "Let There Be Rock" (12:17)
  8. "Bonny"--instrumental (1:03)
  9. "Highway to Hell" (3:53)
  10. "T.N.T." (3:48)
  11. "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" (7:09)

It wasn't until I heard this album that I finally began to appreciate AC/DC as a monument among hard rock bands. (Yes, it took me THAT LONG to realize it!) Don't bother with the single-CD release, there's not a weak song on this album (well, the "Razor's Edge" cuts do get a little annoying...) Each track is performed with stupendous energy & all-out power.

...hmm, turns out this is a "special collector's edition" and not a "limited" edition like I thought...no wonder it's still in print after more than seven years...
