Someone on Perpetual Motion happened to mention this band's "interesting" cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal"; so, a couple nights later, when the video showed up on VH1, I decided to actually watch it instead of reflexively changing the channel. Well, whaddaya know, that song kicks serious butt!!! I was impressed enough to download the mp3 from AudioGalaxy (Napster's replacement, for all intents and purposes), but after several hours of failing to find a copy that wasn't distorted to holy hell, I said, "Fuck it, I'll just buy the damn CD!" Ahh, paying money for music...how quaint...

Anyway...these guys are known as a nu-metal band, which I guess is accurate enough. But they're definitely one of the most progressive nu-metal bands I've heard to date -- several songs are definitely carbon copies of KoRN or Limp Dickshit, but others ("Movies", "Stranded") sound more like the melodic-metal style of Foo Fighters. They certainly don't fall into the trap of "having your cover song overshadow the rest of your music" (known as the Orgy Rule)...perhaps not the most earth-shattering band to come along recently, but definitely a worthwhile diversion.
