Audioslave

Well, here it is...the long, long, long-awaited and highly anticipated collaboration between Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and the remaining members of Rage Against the Machine. Well, okay, it ain't like Sammy Hagar joining Van Halen, but with the sorry state of today's pop music, you'll take what slop you can get and call it mana from heaven...

It would have been much cooler if one of the bands had been called "Audiomaster". No, wait. That's not cool at all. That's incredibly geeky. Oh well. Anyways, I can see why they chose a new name altogether, since there's a lot of Soundgarden and not so much RATM in these tracks -- indeed, if Soundgarden reunited, it would probably sound a helluva lot like this, except the songs wouldn't all be in 4/4 time. :) Fairly decent radio-friendly driving rock, sort of nu-metal but not really; there's not much variety here, though, aside from a twang of country rock in "I Am the Highway" and funkadelic in "Light My Way". Plus, the disc hardly begs for extra spins. Oh well, at least I bought it on sale.
