In case you don't know who this bloke is, he's the keyboardist for Genesis.
"A Curious Feeling"In an interview from the Genesis: A History videotape, Phil Collins mentioned how ironic it was that although Tony Banks is by far the most talented member of Genesis, he has had the LEAST commercial success outside the band. Well, there's a reason. Except for this album, most of his solo work SUCKS. However, this one is the exception that proves the rule (and also his collaboration with Fish on the Quicksilver sountrack.)
Some years ago, I pulled out this tape after not listening to it in years, and was blown away by the musical depth & lyrical quality. The thought crossed my mind to buy it on CD, even though I was near-certain it was never released in that format. Well guess what...it was, with emphasis on the WAS. It was out of print! Damn, damn. Then after complaining about it to everyone I knew, I ran across it in a local record store, brand new! Funny how things work out sometimes.
"Bankstatement"I simply can't understand why Tony Banks has been incapable of making even a halfway-decent solo album since A Curious Feeling. This piece of schlock is shameless, wannabe pop-rock, and it's not just bad...it's downright GUT-CHURNING!! I only picked it up because it was dirt cheap ($1.99) and I figured, hell, if I don't like it I can auction it on eBay for a killing. Well, that assumption was wrong, because the eBay people won't even touch it. Ah well, sucks to be me sometimes...oh yeah, "Bankstatement" is actually the name of the band itself, but no way in hell does it deserve it's own page!!!
