Ahh, the granddaddy of my "Kill For" list. :) Well, I'll try to keep this short & to the point
(unlike that uncontrolled rambling on my Hirax page...)
Blind Illusion was a band that was kicking around the San Francisco metal scene for
several years, with an ever-changing lineup; it's only coincidence that, on this their only
album, the band featured ex-Possessed guitarist Larry LaLonde, plus
ultra-talented bassist Les Claypool, who, as I'm sure you all know, joined up with Larry to
form the band Primus. The sound here is progressive-ish thrash,
although you can hear the odd Primus-y bass note here and there. "Death Noise" and "Kamakazi"
are my two favorite tracks.
And now the story of how I got this...well, it's actually quite prosaic. After bugging
my friend incessantly to sell me his CD (and suggesting offhand that he write me into his
will, which he refused to do for obvious reasons), a copy finally showed up on
eBay...and sold for $137!!! Well, what happened next was fairly predictable -- everybody
and their mother put a CD up for auction, which greatly depressed the price. My cost?
A mere $20, thank you very much. :) Sure, maybe this thing will get reissued someday
(though it's technically still in print as a Japanese import, but I've never had any luck
ordering one...and believe me, I've tried!) but it's pretty cool having the Combat label
original...at long last.
