For as popular as Boston has been, they sure haven't put out many albums. Just as well,
their sound got real old real quick. One thing that helped them land their record contract was
Tom Schulz' M.I.T. degree, which allowed him to create near-perfect demo tapes!
"Boston"
- "More Than a Feeling" (4:45)
- "Peace of Mind" (5:02)
- "Foreplay/Long Time" (7:48)
- "Rock & Roll Band" (3:00)
- "Smokin'" (4:20)
- "Hitch a Ride" (4:12)
- "Something About You" (3:48)
- "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" (4:13)
I think the band won a Grammy for Best New Artist based on this album, but don't quote me
on that! I'm also surprised the words to "Rock & Roll Band" don't go, "Well listen now, hear
what I say/First get yourself an M.I.T. degree/Then pick up a guitar, gotta learn how to
play..."
"Don't Look Back"
- "Don't Look Back" (5:58)
- "The Journey"--instrumental (1:46)
- "It's Easy" (4:27)
- "A Man I'll Never Be" (6:38)
- "Feelin' Satisfied" (4:12)
- "Party" (4:07)
- "Used to Bad News" (2:57)
- "Don't Be Afraid" (3:50)
A great follow-up, yet already the sound is starting to get old. Fortunately their next
album didn't come out for six or seven years!
"Third Stage"
- "Amanda" (4:16)
- "We're Ready" (3:58)
- "The Launch"--instrumental (2:55)
- "Cool the Engines" (4:24)
- "My Destination" (2:19)
- "A New World"--instrumental (0:37)
- "To Be a Man" (3:30)
- "I Think I Like It" (4:07)
- "Can'tcha Say/Still in Love" (7:14)
- "Hollyann" (5:09)
I really liked this album at first, but its glossiness wore off after awhile, and later down
the road "Amanda" caused me real problems, since the name sounds so similar to "Samantha"
(and if I ever find you, BITCH!!!) The organ solo in "The Launch" is pretty wicked,
man that sucker really fills up the speakers! Pretty cool for a band that refuses to use
any form of synthesizers.
