Death_Angel

Well well well, I open up my email box and what do I find?:

Hello,

Hey this is Rob Cavestany and I just want to say I'm flattered and impressed with the website info on D.A. and the Organization (even if you didn't like my singing!) but anyway I wanted to let you know that Mark, Andy and myself have a new band called SWARM (with bass player Michael Isaiah so check out our website: http://www.swarminfo.com

I'm so popular. :-)

Would you believe there is NO DEATH ANGEL HOMEPAGE on the Internet?? Guess this will have to do for now...

Death Angel was one of the premiere bands from the S.F. Bay Area Thrash Metal Invasion of the late 1980's. Fast, tight rhythms, lots of signature changes, even a 10-minute instrumental! All of these guys were teenaged Phillipino cousins...their drummer was only 12 years old when they started! After three fantastic albums, vocalist Mark Osegueda succumbed to "the dreaded disease of marriage," and the remaining members of Death Angel continued on as The Organization.

"The Ultra-Violence"

  1. "Thrashers" (7:09)
  2. "Evil Priest" (4:53)
  3. "Voracious Souls" (5:39)
  4. "Kill as One" (4:57)
  5. "The Ultra-Violence"--instrumental (10:32)
  6. "Mistress of Pain" (4:03)
  7. "Final Death" (6:02)
  8. "I.P.F.S." (1:54)

Their legendary debut. Not a single slow moment to be found here, and each track is played with frenetic intensity. "Thrashers" is sung by guitarist Rob Cavestany and bassist Dennis Pepa, thus giving a preview of that The Organization would eventually sound like. :)

"Frolic Through the Park"

  1. "3rd Floor" (4:52)
  2. "Road Mutants" (3:43)
  3. "Why You Do This" (5:27)
  4. "Bored" (3:27)
  5. "Devil's Metal" (5:31)
  6. "Confused" (7:20)
  7. "Guilty of Innocence" (4:23)
  8. "Open Up" (5:36)
  9. "Shores of Sin" (6:28)
  10. "Cold Gin" (4:20)
  11. "Mind Rape" (5:10)

A worthy follow-up, with more fast, thrashy songs. They expand their musicality here on the slower numbers "Confused" and "Shores of Sin". "Bored" is their best song ever, and even got airtime on MTv's Headbanger's Ball. "Cold Gin" is a Kiss cover.

Oh yeah, there was a live album recorded during this tour, called Fall from Grace, which was released after the band broke up...I haven't bothered getting it, since the band has publicly denounced it (the album was released without their consent), and I've heard it doesn't show the band in prime form. Only reason I mention it here, is because I've gotten a few emails from people chiding me for not mentioning it, and due to the lack of Death Angel webpages out there, people finding this page might think the three CDs listed here were their only official releases. Well, now I've mentioned it, so there. :) (Oh, and I'll bet you didn't know that a demo version of "Mistress of Pain" appeared on the indie release Eastern Front 3? How's THAT for completism??)

"Act III"

  1. "Seemingly Endless Time" (3:49)
  2. "Stop" (5:10)
  3. "Veil of Deception" (2:35)
  4. "The Organization" (4:16)
  5. "Discontinued" (5:50)
  6. "A Room with a View" (4:42)
  7. "Stagnant" (5:33)
  8. "EX-TC" (3:06)
  9. "Disturbing the Peace" (3:53)
  10. "Falling Asleep" (5:54)

A masterpiece, even more diverse musically than their previous album. Real surprises here, with the all-acoustic pieces "Veil of Deception" and "A Room with a View", and less thrashier overall. I think the album stands better as a whole over the individual songs. This album evidences that D.A. was just beginning to reach their stride, but unfortunately, this was their final album.
