"Nightmare Theater"The worst thing about being broke is that sometimes it ends up COSTING you money. Case in point, when this album suddenly got released on CD, eBay was flooded with copies of it, costing between $10 and $15 (depending on how much people bid), which unfortunately I couldn't afford. Well, I figured I'd just snatch it up someday, when finances would permit...well, a few months later, the supply just as suddenly dried up COMPLETELY, and the few auctions that did show up were selling in the $20-30 range!!!!! So I figured, DAMN THE BUDGET, I'd better grab this sucker before the price completely goes through the roof!! So I would up bidding on one from a shady dealer from Canada (who was actually from Mexico, lying bastard), with bad feedback and outrageous shipping prices, for a total of $26.50 ppd. And I was happy to get it!!!
Now...this is truly a gem from the 80's metal scene. For one thing, it has many elements of "modern" orchestral black metal, YEARS before Cradle of Filth and others hit the scene! It's also got songs of pure unfettered thrash, especially "Lucifer's Lament" and "Riding to Hell". The story behind the band itself is a bit of a mystery -- it wasn't until many years later that it was revealed to be a side project of Virgin Steele founder David DeFeis, but whether he conceived of it all by himself, or took over the reigns when the *real* band dissipated while recording it, is anybody's guess...(he's not telling.)
