"Capitol Collectors Series" (compilation)I never realized how popular this band was in the 70's until I saw their Behind The Music episode...up til then, the only songs I'd heard were "American Band" and "Closer to Home" (which I'd always thought was by Lynyrd Skynyrd, silly me!! Helloween does an AWESOME cover of that song, btw.) Pretty cool collection, all in chronological order, which makes it interesting to hear how they went from dirty blues jams to more slickly commercial product. The early songs tend to have some VERY high-end bass guitar (esp. on "Mean Mistreater") -- I swear, they could ONLY get away with that in the Seventies!! No less than five cover songs appear here: "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones, "Feelin' Alright" by Traffic, "Inside Looking Out" by the Animals, and "The Loco-Motion" & "Some Kind of Wonderful" which I don't know who originally did them (except that "Loco-Motion" has also been covered by Emerson, Lake & Powell.) For some reason they left off "Queen Bee", which appeared on the Heavy Metal soundtrack.
The liner notes detail some interesting band history, but what the hell is up with that photo of the band members NAKED?!? All I gotta say is, shave and EAT SOME FOOD, fer cryin' out loud!
