Hades

Progressive/technical metal from NYC. During their long breakup, Alan Tecchio & Dan Lorenzo formed the band Non-Fiction. Alan Tecchio was also in Watchtower.

"If at First You Don't Succeed"

  1. "Opinionate!" (5:10)
  2. "In the Mean Time" (3:25)
  3. "Rebel Without a Brain" (4:28)
  4. "King in Exile" (3:57)
  5. "Face the Fat Reality" (3:01)
  6. "Outro"--instrumental (0:43)
  7. "I Too Eye" (3:35)
  8. "Diplomatic Immunity" (2:55)
  9. "Process of Assimilation" (4:25)
  10. "Tears of Orpheus"--instrumental (1:20)
  11. "Aftermath of Betrayal (The Tragedy of Hamlet)" (9:00)
  12. "Finale"--instrumental (0:18)
  13. "M.E.S. (Techincal Difficulties)" (2:55)

Progressive metal...well, what else would you call a band that does a song about Hamlet? I got this when I first was getting into thrash metal but haven't listened to it much. There's another song by Hades ("Easy Way Out") on Metal Massacre VI, although it sounds completely different!

"$avior$elf"

  1. "$avior$elf" (3:42)
  2. "Decline & Fall of the American Empire" (3:15)
  3. "Our Father" (1:37)
  4. "Active Contrition" (3:53)
  5. "To Know One" (3:59)
  6. "In the Words of the Profit" (2:57)
  7. "The Agnostic"--instrumental (1:35)
  8. "Y2K" (3:12)
  9. "End of the Bargain" (6:12)
  10. "Fall" (3:48)
  11. "The Atheist"--instrumental (1:49)

After breaking up for nearly a decade, the band reforms to put together a concept album about Christian hypocrasy...what else? All I gotta say is it's about TIME someone did a song about the Y2K thingy...

"The Downside"

  1. "Ground Zero N.Y.C." (4:13)
  2. "Align the Planets" (4:01)
  3. "Bitter suite #1" (3:11)
  4. "Hoax" (4:01)
  5. "Pay the Price" (2:11)
  6. "Hail to the Thief" (3:00)
  7. "Shove It" (3:13)
  8. "It's a Wonderful Lie" (4:05)
  9. "Become Dust" (3:44)
  10. "Responsible" (4:24)
  11. "The Me That Might Have Been" (3:30)
  12. "Ground Zero (reprise)" (1:20)

Absolutely the best album Hades has ever done...it only took 20 seconds of listening before I threw it on the "buy" pile. Not so technical as their previous releases, more in the vein of power-thrash with a couple songs bordering on GRINDCORE! ("Pay the Price", in particular.) HIGHLY recommended CD!!

...and yes, "Ground Zero NYC" was recorded an entire year BEFORE 9/11. Freaky, huh? Well, it's not really that prophetic, since it depicts a nuclear attack on the city, not a "flying hijacked airplanes into buildings" one. I mean, jeez. It takes a truly twisted and soulless mind to conceive of a plan like that...
