Don Henley

Don Henley was (is?) the drummer & lead singer of The Eagles, but for some reason I like his solo stuff better.

"I Can't Stand Still" (autographed!)

  1. "I Can't Stand Still" (3:33)
  2. "You Better Hang Up" (3:21)
  3. "Long Way Home" (5:28)
  4. "Nobody's Business" (3:43)
  5. "Talking to the Moon" (4:39)
  6. "Dirty Laundry" (5:36)
  7. "Johnny Can't Read" (3:22)
  8. "Them and Us" (4:01)
  9. "La Eile"--instrumental (0:52)
  10. "Lilah" (4:09)
  11. "The Unclouded Day" (3:36)

When I worked as an L.A. security guard I used to meet several famous people each day, and one time when Don Henley checked in, I just happened to have a copy of this CD on hand for him to sign! Pretty cool, huh?

"Building the Perfect Beast"

  1. "The Boys of Summer" (4:45)
  2. "You Can't Make Love" (3:34)
  3. "Man with a Mission" (2:43)
  4. "You're Not Drinking Enough" (4:40)
  5. "Not Enough Love in the World" (3:54)
  6. "Building the Perfect Beast" (4:59)
  7. "All She Wants to Do is Dance" (4:28)
  8. "A Month of Sundays" (4:31)
  9. "Sunset Grill" (6:22)
  10. "Drivin' with Your Eyes Closed" (3:41)
  11. "Land of the Living" (3:24)

I remember this album getting tons of radio airplay when it came out. "Sunset Grill" is a fabulous song, can't decide whether I like it or "Dirty Laundry" as my favorite Henley song. The video for "The Boys of Summer" is pretty cool too (especially the cute little-boy Henley playing drums), but after hearing that stupid song over 1000 times in my life, I'm totally sick of it..."She's on the Zoom", the unreleased b-side on the "Sunset Grill" 12", appears on the Vision Quest soundtrack.

"The End of the Innocence"

  1. "The End of the Innocence" (5:18)
  2. "How Bad Do You Want It?" (3:47)
  3. "I Will Not Go Quietly" (5:43)
  4. "The Last Worthless Evening" (6:04)
  5. "New York Minute" (6:36)
  6. "Shangri-La" (4:57)
  7. "Little Tin God" (4:43)
  8. "Gimme What You Got" (6:14)
  9. "If Dirt Were Dollars" (4:34)
  10. "The Heart of the Matter" (5:22)

"The Last Worthless Evening" was a song I dedicated to my girlfriend of about ten years ago, since the lyrics almost perfectly matched our relationship...well, to make a long story short, I curse the day Don Henley put that song to tape, and if I could scratch that track out of existence from every CD ever pressed, I would!!!

That's not the only reason I waited so long to buy this CD, though...in a word, it fucking blows. The title track is a shameless retread of "Boys of Summer", and while "New York Minute" may have gained some significance in light of recent events, it's also a major snoozer. "I Will Not Go Quietly" seems to be okay, since it's the only song here with any ooomph -- the rest aren't even worth mentioning. Anyways, I don't think I'll be buying any more Henley albums soon...although, come to think, did Henley even record anything since?
