Krokus

This heavy-metal outfit from Switzerland started out as a total AC/DC clone, and ended up that way as well. A couple of their albums are pretty good though. Hey, did you know that "krokus" is a type of flower? That made doing a web search on this band VERY annoying....

"Headhunter"

  1. "Headhunter" (4:28)
  2. "Eat the Rich" (4:13)
  3. "Screaming in the Night" (6:44)
  4. "Ready to Burn" (3:54)
  5. "Night Wolf" (4:10)
  6. "Stayed Awake All Night" (4:41)
  7. "Stand and be Counted" (4:07)
  8. "White Din"--instrumental (1:50)
  9. "Russian Winter" (3:31)

The band's best album by far. Many screaming rockers here, especially "Eat the Rich" (which has nothing to do with the Motörhead song, of course), "Russian Winter", and the title track. "Stayed Awake All Night" is a hard-driving remake of a Bachman-Turner Overdrive song, and the sort-of ballad "Screaming in the Night" also does very well.

"The Blitz"

  1. "Midnite Maniac" (3:59)
  2. "Out of Control" (4:15)
  3. "Boys Nite Out" (3:38)
  4. "Our Love (Will Never Die)" (4:35)
  5. "Out to Lunch" (4:20)
  6. "Ballroom Blitz" (4:00)
  7. "Rock the Nation" (4:41)
  8. "Hot Stuff" (4:36)
  9. "Ready to Rock" (4:30)

Well, this was the album that launched the band into MTv fame! "Midnite Maniac" is a radio-friendly rocker that received lots of airplay, as did the power ballad "Our Love" (interesting video, that one, which showed the lead singer naked in the shower...they edited that part out later, unfortunately.) Oh yeah, they also made a concert video called The Video Blitz which I still have around here somewhere; to their detriment, several of the songs clearly show they were using backing tracks for the music! Not total lip-synching, ala Milli Vanilli, but still...plus, when I saw the band live for this tour, the concert EXACTLY matched the video, right down to the guitarist tossing his hair at a particular moment. Well, it's not surprising then that the band went on a complete downslide from there, and nothing they've done since has been worth mentioning.
