Greg Lake

Although Greg Lake is the lead singer & guitarist of my favorite band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, I've never been a really big fan of his solo material. However I had an extra picture left over from my ELP Gallery and thought I would stick it up here.

"Greg Lake"

  1. "Nuclear Attack" (4:31)
  2. "Love You Too Much" (3:56)
  3. "It Hurts" (4:30)
  4. "Black and Blue" (4:30)
  5. "Retribution Drive" (5:04)
  6. "Long Goodbye" (3:59)
  7. "The Lie" (4:45)
  8. "Someone" (4:11)
  9. "Let Me Love You Once Before You Go" (4:18)
  10. "For Those Who Dare" (3:51)

My copy of this album is a Japanese import with the title "Greg Lake & Gary Moore". Except for the blistering rendition of Gary Moore's "Nuclear Attack", all the songs here are quiet and pop-ish, nothing to write home about.

"The King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents Greg Lake in Concert"

  1. "Fanfare for the Common Man"--instrumental (6:10)
  2. "Karn Evil 9/Nuclear Attack" (5:45)
  3. "The Lie" (4:33)
  4. "Retribution Drive" (5:41)
  5. "Lucky Man" (4:50)
  6. "Parisienne Walkways" (6:03)
  7. "You Really Got a Hold on Me" (5:25)
  8. "Love You Too Much" (5:03)
  9. "21st Century Schizoid Man" (9:06)
  10. "In the Court of the Crimson King" (5:39)

This CD is a concert broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour around the time his solo album came out, some 15 years ago. The songs have a lot more strength than the solo version, aided by Gary Moore's excellent guitar playing. The ELP covers aren't that great ("Karn Evil 9" is cut down to about 30 seconds!!), however the real gems here are the last two songs from Greg Lake's King Crimson days. Ah, welcome back my friends to the court of the crimson king!

"Manoeuvres"

  1. "Manoeuvres" (4:03)
  2. "Too Young to Love" (4:04)
  3. "Paralysed" (4:01)
  4. "A Woman Like You" (4:33)
  5. "I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love Tonight" (3:54)
  6. "It's You, You've Gotta Believe" (7:14)
  7. "Famous Last Words" (3:04)
  8. "Slave to Love" (3:21)
  9. "Haunted" (4:54)
  10. "I Don't Know Why I Still Love You" (5:13)

If Greg Lake's first solo album was bad, this one is pure dreck. Only the title track (which, btw, is the most fucked-up Anglicization of any word I've ever seen, it's actually PAINFUL to type!) rocks with any decent energy -- the rest is a putrid mishmash of syrupy ballads. Even the TITLES make me ill!! This album was never officially issued on CD until Greg himself released it in 2000 via his fan club. (I do seem to recall seeing listings for an earlier copy of this disc, but it might have been a bootleg.) At $10.99 used, the price was awfully steep, but I'm an obsessive nutcase who craves complete collections, so there.
