Motorhead

For a long time while I was getting into heavy metal, I didn't pay much attention to Motörhead. Although I was familiar with their "hit" single "Killed by Death", the rest of their music I lumped in with bands like AC/DC, too raw and simple for my taste. That all changed in 1987 when I bought No Remorse...and nearly wore out my crappy vinyl playing it over, and over, and OVER again! Such raw energy and power...and Lemmy is one mean-lookin' dude, to boot! (He seems like a nice enough guy, but I sure would not want to piss him off!!) Discovering Motörhead was akin to a religious awakening.

Oh yeah, and who could forget Lemmy's 50th birthday party, where Metallica dressed up as "The Lemmys" and played a bunch of Motorhead classics? (And conversely, Motorhead covers "Enter Sandman" on the ECW: Extreme Music CD.) Lemmy's also done a handful of side projects, but the only tunes I've heard are his appearance on the Dragon Attack tribute (where he joins with Ted Nugent in a rippin' cover of Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down"), and those I burned from mp3 to my Eponymous + More collection.

"On Parole"

  1. "Motorhead" (2:50)
  2. "On Parole" (5:38)
  3. "Vibrator" (2:52)
  4. "Iron Horse/Born to Lose" (5:19)
  5. "City Kids" (3:42)
  6. "Fools" (5:40)
  7. "The Watcher" (4:50)
  8. "Leaving Here" (2:56)
  9. "Lost Johnny" (3:32)

I'm confused about this album...apparently, Motorhead recorded two albums early in their career, Motorhead and On Parole, with essentially the same tracks but recorded during different sessions. I can't remember which came first, or even if this particular copy bears the proper name or not. Oh, well. What I do know is that this album sounds almost NOTHING like the Motorhead we all know and love today (except perhaps on "Iron Horse") The song "Fools", in particular, is a slow-paced, easy-rock number, sung by the guitarist, and sounds TOTALLY unlike Motorhead! The three songs Lemmy wrote & sang for Hawkwind ("Motorhead", "Lost Johnny" and "The Watcher") are here.

"The Best of & the Rest of Mötorhead" (live album)

  1. "Motorhead" (3:21)
  2. "Vibrator" (4:01)
  3. "Keep Us on the Road" (5:53)
  4. "The Watcher" (5:13)
  5. "Iron Horse/Born to Lose" (5:08)
  6. "Leaving Here" (2:59)
  7. "On Parole" (6:32)
  8. "I'm Your Witchdoctor" (3:03)
  9. "Train Kept on Rollin'" (3:45)
  10. "City Kids" (4:32)
  11. "White Line Fever" (2:40)

I bought this thinking it was a knock-off of their famous What's Words Worth? concert recording (see below), but it turned out to be a knock-off of some other live album recorded in 1977. Similar track listing to the aforementioned Words, but a lot rawer and poorly produced. (Note: It turns out both Fast Eddie Clarke AND Philthy "Animal" Taylor were in the band at this point--Lemmy introduces them towards the end of the set. So my "genius in packaging" remark I made earlier was misplaced. :)

"Iron Fist & the Hordes from Hell; Live at the Roundhouse 1978"

  1. "The Watcher" (4:25)
  2. "Iron Horse/Born to Lose" (5:08)
  3. "On Parole" (5:42)
  4. "White Line Fever" (2:42)
  5. "Keep Us on the Road" (5:28)
  6. "Leaving Here" (3:29)
  7. "I'm Your Witch Doctor" (3:12)
  8. "The Train Kept A Rollin'" (3:03)
  9. "City Kids" (4:44)

Also known as What's Words Worth?, this is one of the band's most famous early concerts, where they billed themselves as "Iron Fist and the Hordes from Hades" (but WHY?? I could never figure that out...) at some punk-rocker club near London. It's one of the very first shows featuring the "classic" Motorhead lineup: Lemmy, Fast Eddie Clarke, and "Philthy" Animal Taylor. Also it's one of the most KNOCKED-OFF recordings of all fucking time...I've seen this sucker released under something like 10 different titles! Apparently this CD version is the remastered version of those tapes, and it *does* sound particularly sharp and crystal clear (unlike the total murky sludge on my crappy vinyl version, City Kids, which has been gathering dust in my closet for years.)

"Overkill"

  1. "Overkill" (5:10)
  2. "Stay Clean" (2:38)
  3. "(I Won't) Pay Your Price" (2:53)
  4. "I'll Be Your Sister" (2:51)
  5. "Capricorn" (4:11)
  6. "No Class" (2:37)
  7. "Damage Case" (3:01)
  8. "Tear Ya Down" (2:38)
  9. "Metropolis" (3:33)
  10. "Limb from Limb" (4:53)

The first album where Motorhead began to sound like Motorhead. A lot of these songs I heard originally from No Remorse (and mostly edited versions at that) and various live compilations. "Overkill" blasts away like a steam-hammer, "Stay Clean" has a powerful rhythm to it, while "Capricorn" and "Metropolis", while slower than normal, manage to rock as well. The other songs are also great, though I'm not all that familiar with them.

"Overkill" has been covered by...well, Overkill. :)

"Bomber"

  1. "Dead Men Tell No Tales" (3:04)
  2. "Lawman" (3:57)
  3. "Sweet Revenge" (4:13)
  4. "Sharpshooter" (3:17)
  5. "Poison" (2:57)
  6. "Stone Dead Forever" (4:54)
  7. "All the Aces" (3:23)
  8. "Step Down" (3:41)
  9. "Talking Head" (3:43)
  10. "Bomber" (3:45)

This album sounds pretty much like the one before it, raw and brutal. Some of the songs here are too slow or bluesy for my taste, but "Stone Dead Forever" rocks hard with one of Lemmy's unique, trademark bass riffs, and "Dead Men Tell No Tales" is excellent also.

"Ace of Spades"

  1. "Ace of Spades" (2:47)
  2. "Love Me Like a Reptile" (3:24)
  3. "Shoot You in the Back" (2:40)
  4. "Live to Win" (3:37)
  5. "Fast and Loose" (3:22)
  6. "(We Are) The Road Crew" (3:12)
  7. "Fire, Fire" (2:42)
  8. "Jailbait" (3:33)
  9. "Dance" (2:37)
  10. "Bite the Bullet" (1:38)
  11. "The Chase is Better Than the Catch" (4:17)
  12. "The Hammer" (2:45)
  13. "Dirty Love" (2:57)
  14. "Please Don't Touch" (2:48)
  15. "Emergency" (2:58)

Got sick of waiting for a copy of this CD to turn up used (that wasn't scratched to hell, that is) so finally I bought it brand-spanking new. Without a doubt, this is the album everyone thinks of when they think of Motorhead. The title track is their traditional concert-closer and a radio staple (on the few radio stations that will play Motorhead!); "Jailbait" and "The Chase..." are other great songs, and "Road Crew" is a song dedicated to...well, their road crew. :) This edition of the CD mixes up the song order for some stupid reason, and adds 3 totally useless bonus tracks (i.e. I already have them.)

Bathory covers "Ace of Spades" on the Black Mark Tribute compilation.

"Dirty Love"

  1. "Hump on Your Back" (3:41)
  2. "Shoot You in the Back" (3:09)
  3. "Dirty Love" (1:02)
  4. "Dirty Love"--"full version" (3:51)
  5. "Love Me Like a Reptile" (4:15)
  6. "Fast and Loose" (3:04)
  7. "Waltz of the Vampire" (aka "Dance") (3:38)
  8. "Ace of Spades"--"rare version" (3:01)
  9. "Bastard" (3:04)
  10. "Godzilla Akimbo"--instrumental (2:21)
  11. "The Road Crew" (3:22)

Not sure if buying this was a mistake or not. At first I thought it was a collection of rarities, but it turns out to be a bunch of outtakes from the Ace of Spaces sessions, all sloppy and badly mixed. ("Dirty Love" stops in the middle of the song, which is why they give it two different tracks, I guess.) A couple unreleased songs here, but don't let that fool you, most of them are OTHER Motorhead songs in different form!

"Stone Dead Forever"

  1. "Nightmare" (4:12)
  2. "Treat Me Nice" (3:54)
  3. "Stone Dead Forever" (4:35)
  4. "Sharpshooter" (3:18)
  5. "You Ain't Gonna Live Forever" (3:11)
  6. "The Hammer" (3:12)
  7. "Bomber" (3:36)
  8. "Love Me Like a Reptile" (3:32)
  9. "Fun on the Farm"--instrumental (3:00)
  10. "Tear Ya Down" (2:41)
  11. "Fire Fire" (2:41)
  12. "Louie Louie" (2:45)
  13. "Jailbait" (3:33)
  14. "Step Down" (3:27)

Like Dirty Love, this is a collection of studio outtakes & demos -- however, the production is MUCH cleaner, and captures the "live studio jam" feeling more effectively (rather than the "What the fuck are we doing here?" feeling of "D.L.") Also, there are 3 exclusive, unreleased songs here: "Treat Me Nice", "You Ain't Gonna Live Forever", and a wicked instrumental, "Fun on the Farm". A must-have for the Motorhead completist!

"No Sleep 'til Hammersmith" (live album)

  1. "Ace of Spades" (2:57)
  2. "Stay Clean" (2:52)
  3. "Metropolis" (3:25)
  4. "The Hammer" (3:04)
  5. "Iron Horse" (3:52)
  6. "No Class" (2:49)
  7. "Overkill" (4:45)
  8. "(We Are) The Road Crew" (4:01)
  9. "Capricorn" (4:43)
  10. "Bomber" (3:20)
  11. "Motorhead" (4:42)
  12. "Over the Top" (3:02)
  13. "Leaving Here" (3:02)
  14. "Stone Dead Forever" (5:29)
  15. "Dead Men Tell No Tales" (3:03)
  16. "Too Late, Too Late" (3:18)

Definitely one of the best live albums ever recorded by any band, any time. To make it even sweeter, this CD throws in five ultra-rare live tracks -- "Over the Top", which I had on the "Motorhead" picture disc single, and "Leaving Here" through "Too Late...", from their super-rare "Golden Years" EP. Yippee!!

"Iron Fist"

  1. "Iron Fist" (2:53)
  2. "Heart of Stone" (3:02)
  3. "I'm the Doctor" (2:39)
  4. "Go to Hell" (3:07)
  5. "Loser" (3:51)
  6. "Sex and Outrage" (2:08)
  7. "America" (3:36)
  8. "Shut it Down" (2:38)
  9. "Speedfreak" (3:20)
  10. "(Don't Let 'Em) Grind Ya Down" (3:06)
  11. "(Don't Need) Religion" (2:40)
  12. "Bang to Rights" (2:39)
  13. "Remember Me, I'm Gone" (2:17)
  14. "(Don't Let 'Em) Grind Ya Down"--alternate version (3:09)
  15. "Lemmy Goes to the Pub"--alternate version of "Heart of Stone" (3:01)
  16. "Same Old Song, I'm Gone"--alternate version of "Remember Me, I'm Gone" (2:20)
  17. "Young and Crazy"--instrumental version of "Sex and Outrage" (2:11)

This really isn't a great CD -- except for "Iron Fist", which is a mega-classic (and has been covered by Sodom.) The rest of the songs range from average to poor. Ironically, it was one of the first Motorhead albums I ever bought on CD (never owned the crappy vinyl.) To make things even more annoying, they recently reissued it with a bonus track, "Remember Me, I'm Gone" which isn't on any other album! So I wound up buying the damn thing TWICE. Oh well, that's the price of obsession...

"Another Perfect Day"

  1. "Back at the Funny Farm" (4:12)
  2. "Shine" (3:10)
  3. "Dancing on Your Grave" (4:27)
  4. "Rock It" (3:55)
  5. "One Track Mind" (5:54)
  6. "Another Perfect Day" (5:26)
  7. "Marching Off to War" (4:10)
  8. "I Got Mine" (5:21)
  9. "Tales of Glory" (2:54)
  10. "Die You Bastard" (4:33)
  11. "Turn You Round Again" (3:56)
  12. "Hoochie Coochie Man"--live (6:30)
  13. "(Don't Need) Religion"--live (2:52)

Phew! This has got to be the HARDEST Motorhead CD to find used, I have only seen it once, and now I own it! Finally! (Even got the latest reissue w/ bonus tracks, not that it matters, I already have tracks 11 & 12 elsewhere, and track 13 I don't give a whit about.)

Fast Eddie Clarke left the band at this point, replaced by the super-talented Brian Robertson from Thin Lizzy. The result was by far the most musically superior album ever released by the band! "I Got Mine" and "Dancing on Your Grave" are among my favorite Motorhead songs, and the rest sound fabulous as well. Unfortunately, "Robbo" did not get along with the band, and refused to play certain Motorhead standards ("Ace of Spades", "Bomber") in concert...not surprisingly, he quickly got the boot.

"The King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents Motörhead" (live CD)

  1. "Back at the Funny Farm" (3:56)
  2. "Tales of Glory" (3:19)
  3. "Marching off to War" (4:14)
  4. "Iron Horse/Born to Lose" (3:53)
  5. "Another Perfect Day" (6:07)
  6. "Shine" (3:45)
  7. "I Got Mine" (5:43)
  8. "Interview with Lemmy" (21:13)

As far as I know, this is the ONLY official recording of the band's Another Perfect Day tour. Tensions with "Robbo" are hardly noticeable, as each track is played to fine-tuned perfection. Of course, in the interview following the music, Lemmy lets loose with his opinion of that short-term guitarist (and a few other things as well, such as how Americans are complete idiots...HEY!!!)

"Anthology" (compilation)

  1. "I Got Mine" (5:23)
  2. "Jailbait" (3:30)
  3. "Over the Top" (3:13)
  4. "Step Down" (3:41)
  5. "Dirty Love" (2:54)
  6. "Ace of Spades" (2:46)
  7. "Hoochie Coochie Man"--live (6:28)
  8. "Go to Hell" (3:07)
  9. "Heart of Stone" (3:01)
  10. "Louie Louie" (2:44)
  11. "Stone Dead Forever" (4:50)
  12. "Back at the Funny Farm" (4:10)
  13. "The Chase is Better Than the Catch" (4:14)
  14. "Turn You Round Again" (3:55)

A few people have asked me if I would sell/trade this CD, since "Over the Top" (the only song here I don't have on any other collection) is readily available on a few of their reissues. Well I thought about it, and thought about it, and decided I might as well keep it for its collector value. So I'm going to avoid buying any collection with "Over the Top" on it, for now. :-)

"No Remorse" (2-CD compilation, special edition)

    disc one:
  1. "Ace of Spades" (2:47)
  2. "Motorhead"--live (3:37)
  3. "Jailbait" (3:33)
  4. "Stay Clean" (2:42)
  5. "Too Late, Too Late"--live (3:26)
  6. "Killed by Death" (4:42)
  7. "Bomber"--live (3:43)
  8. "Iron Fist" (2:54)
  9. "Shine" (3:11)
  10. "Dancing on Your Grave" (4:30)
  11. "Metropolis" (3:37)
  12. "Snaggletooth" (3:51)
    disc two:
  1. "Overkill" (5:15)
  2. "Please Don't Touch"--w/ Girlschool (2:49)
  3. "Stone Dead Forever" (4:54)
  4. "Like a Nightmare" (4:28)
  5. "Emergency"--w/ Girlschool, Fast Eddie Clarke on vocals (3:00)
  6. "Steal Your Face" (4:31)
  7. "Louie, Louie" (2:37)
  8. "No Class" (2:41)
  9. "Iron Horse"--live (3:48)
  10. "We Are the Road Crew" (3:12)
  11. "Leaving Here"--live (3:05)
  12. "Locomotive" (3:25)
  13. "Under the Knife"--12" single version (3:50)
  14. "Under the Knife"--12" single version (4:34)
  15. "Masterplan" (2:55)
  16. "No Class"--featuring Wendy O' Williams (2:32)
  17. "Stand by Your Man"--featuring Wendy O' Williams (3:06)

Well, as stated earlier, this album was my unholy baptism to the Motorhead religion. When I bought it, "Killed by Death" was the only song I'd heard before, and though perhaps I'd heard other songs here and there, they never stood out in my mind...but as soon as "Ace of Spades" blasted through the speakers, I was hooked!! And as song after song went by, the music never once lost it's brutal pace, and by the time I got to "Shine" and "Dancing on Your Grave", I was practically in orgasm.....

STOP PRESS!!! This lovely item has now been rereleased as a 2-CD special edition, restoring the original track listing PLUS FIVE EXTRA SONGS!! In addition, the edited versions of "Iron Fist", "Overkill", etc. have been restored to their full, original lengths. How totally kewl! One strange thing...there are two tracks here called "Under the Knife", but they are totally different songs!

"The Birthday Party" (live album)

  1. "Iron Fist" (3:13)
  2. "Mean Machine" (3:09)
  3. "On the Road" (5:10)
  4. "We Are the Road Crew" (2:37)
  5. "The Hammer" (2:34)
  6. "Metropolis" (2:58)
  7. "Ace of Spades" (2:43)
  8. "Steal Your Face" (4:08)
  9. "Nothing Up My Sleeve" (3:17)
  10. "Bite the Bullet" (1:28)
  11. "The Chase is Better Than the Catch" (4:09)
  12. "No Class" (2:37)
  13. "Killed by Death" (5:25)
  14. "Bomber" (3:13)
  15. "Motorhead" (3:19)

This fun live show was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon on June 26th, 1985, and the title refers either to Lemmy's 40th or the band's 10th, which ever you prefer. :) Quite a few pre-release tracks from Orgasmatron are featured, including "On the Road", which is "Built for Speed" with totally different lyrics (and, in some ways, I prefer it to the studio version!) The song was also featured on the "Hear'N Aid" benefit album, and, along with an exclusive live version of "Steal Your Face", added to the remastered version of Orgasmatron, which negates the need for upgrading that CD, finally!!! The band is very loose and relaxed, and obviously are having a great time. Unfortunately, this CD was released on the Enigma label, so is rather rare and hard to find these days. (And, while on that subject, what the FUCK is up with all of Enigma CDs being out of print? Why didn't they sell off the rights to someone else, like Combat, Arista, Chrysalis, and all those other record labels that went belly-up during the great corporate conglomeration movement of the 90's???)

"Orgasmatron"

  1. "Deaf Forever" (4:25)
  2. "Nothing Up My Sleeve" (3:11)
  3. "Ain't My Crime" (3:42)
  4. "Claw" (3:31)
  5. "Mean Machine" (2:56)
  6. "Built for Speed" (4:56)
  7. "Ridin' with the Driver" (3:47)
  8. "Doctor Rock" (3:37)
  9. "Orgasmatron" (5:24)

I didn't buy this album for a long time, so I didn't realize what great music I was missing out on...this was the first "new Motorhead" album, after the classic lineup of Lemmy/Fast Eddie/Philthy "Animal" Taylor broke up & Lemmy reformed the band as a quartet. "Deaf Forever" growls along like a beast, "Mean Machine" and "Nothing Up My Sleeve" are played too fast for laws to allow, and "Orgasmatron" is one of their best songs ever...though, dare I say, the Sepultura version is even better!! "Built for Speed" is the same as an earlier, non-album song called "On the Road", but with different lyrics.

"Rock and Roll"

  1. "Rock 'N' Roll" (3:48)
  2. "Eat the Rich" (3:40)
  3. "Blackheart" (4:00)
  4. "Stone Deaf in the U.S.A." (3:34)
  5. "The Wolf" (4:25)
  6. "Traitor" (3:18)
  7. "Dogs" (3:46)
  8. "All for You" (4:08)
  9. "Boogeyman" (3:15)

Philthy returned to the band for this one, but it didn't help the music here, which is all fairly plain and derivative (though better than Iron Fist, at least.) Even the spoken word intro to "The Wolf" by Monty Python's Michael Palin is dull and boring.

"Nö Sleep At All" (live album)

  1. "Dr. Rock" (3:20)
  2. "Stay Clean"--unlisted track (2:25)
  3. "Traitor" (2:51)
  4. "Metropolis"--unlisted track (3:03)
  5. "Dogs" (3:25)
  6. "Ace of Spades" (2:52)
  7. "Eat the Rich" (4:34)
  8. "Built for Speed" (4:51)
  9. "Deaf Forever" (4:04)
  10. "Just 'Cos You've Got the Power" (7:37)
  11. "Killed by Death" (5:57)
  12. "Overkill" (6:39)

Recorded on the Rock 'N' Roll tour, this album doesn't exactly show the band at their best. Too many crappy new songs, and even the concert staple "Ace of Spades" is played sloppily. Things do get better by the last five tracks, with some humorous introductions by Lemmy (for "Killed by Death": "This was a BIG HIT for us! I've got 10,000 copies of it in my house!")

I got to see the band live for the first and only time on this tour, oddly enough just after I bought this album. Funny thing, the show was no different from the album, right down to Lemmy's comments. Disappointing. About the only difference was right at the start, when some idiot threw a piece of junk in Lemmy's face, and Lemmy shouted, "Whoever threw that, meet me backstage after the show and I'll kick your ass for you!"

"1916"

  1. "The One to Sing the Blues" (3:07)
  2. "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)" (3:13)
  3. "No Voices in the Sky" (4:12)
  4. "Going to Brazil" (2:28)
  5. "Nightmare/The Dreamtime" (4:39)
  6. "Love Me Forever" (5:27)
  7. "Angel City" (3:56)
  8. "Make My Day" (4:24)
  9. "Ramones" (1:25)
  10. "Shut You Down" (2:40)
  11. "1916" (3:45)

The band went on hiatus for a while before creating this album, and they definitely used their rest well. Some of the band's best music ever is on this album! Not a weak song anywhere here, even the title track ballad is a fine song (and the ONLY good ballad Motorhead has ever done!)

"No Voices in the Sky" (promo single, no sleeve)

  1. "No Voices in the Sky" (4:12)
  2. "Eagle Rock" (3:10)

This is a promotional single from the 1916 CD with a totally rare unreleased track! HA HA, SUCKERS!!

"March or Die"

  1. "Stand" (3:31)
  2. "Cat Scratch Fever" (3:51)
  3. "Bad Religion" (5:01)
  4. "Jack the Ripper" (4:37)
  5. "I Ain't No Nice Guy" (4:15)
  6. "Hellraiser" (4:33)
  7. "Asylum Choir" (3:40)
  8. "Too Good to be True" (3:35)
  9. "You Better Run" (4:50)
  10. "Name in Vain" (3:05)
  11. "March or Die" (5:42)

I'm beginning to notice a pattern here...ever since Ace of Spades, Motorhead has put out one excellent album, followed by a ho-hum album, followed by an excellent album, etc. This one continues the trend. Dreadfully over-produced, with needless guest appearances by Slash of Guns N' Roses, etc. The title track is more or less a poor rip-off of "Orgasmatron", and the ballad "I Ain't No Nice Guy" is truly pathetic. The only tracks worth mentioning are the cover of Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" (not a very good song, but I have a weakness for covers) and "Hellraiser", which was co-written by Ozzy Osbourne and featured in the movie Hellraiser III.

"The Best of Motorhead II"

  1. "Deaf Forever" (4:26)
  2. "Stay Clean" (2:39)
  3. "The One to Sing the Blues" (3:07)
  4. "Hellraiser" (4:33)
  5. "Metropolis"--live (3:25)
  6. "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)" (3:13)
  7. "I'll Be Your Sister" (2:51)
  8. "Traitor" (3:18)
  9. "Fire, Fire" (2:42)
  10. "Too Late, Too Late"--live (3:21)
  11. "Steal Your Face" (4:21)
  12. "Bad Religion" (5:01)
  13. "No Voices in the Sky" (4:12)
  14. "Just 'Cos You've Got the Power" (7:30)
  15. "Cradle to the Grave" (4:10)

This compilation includes "Just Cos You've Got the Power" and "Cradle to the Grave", both rare b-sides from the "Eat the Rich" crappy vinyl 12" single. Both songs are also available on the remastered version of Rock 'N' Roll, but I happened to run across this first...

"Bastards"

  1. "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" (2:33)
  2. "Burner" (2:52)
  3. "Death or Glory" (4:50)
  4. "I Am the Sword" (4:28)
  5. "Born to Raise Hell" (4:57)
  6. "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me" (4:05)
  7. "Bad Woman" (3:16)
  8. "Liar" (4:10)
  9. "Lost in the Ozone" (3:26)
  10. "I'm Your Man" (3:28)
  11. "We Bring the Shake" (3:46)
  12. "Devils" (5:56)

This CD came out less than a year after March or Die...in fact, Motorhead has been incredibly prolific with putting out CD's ever since 1916. (The album, not the year.) Again, the good album/bad album pattern continues, with this being another EXCELLENT piece of work. (With the exception of the ballad "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me", a song about incest which is musically more horrifying than its subject matter.) Many fast, tight rockers here, with some atmospheric sounds similar to the 1916 sound. The last two songs are INCREDIBLE, and sound more progressive than anything the band has ever done! This CD was particularly hard to get since it was released on a cheap, little-known record label that needs help in the distribution department.

An alternate version of "Born to Raise Hell", featuring Ice-T (well, basically this version with Ice-T's voice dubbed in) appears on the Airheads soundtrack.

"Sacrifice"

  1. "Sacrifice" (3:16)
  2. "Sex and Death" (2:02)
  3. "Over Your Shoulder" (3:17)
  4. "War for War" (3:08)
  5. "Order/Fade to Black" (4:02)
  6. "Dog-Face Boy" (3:25)
  7. "All Gone to Hell" (3:41)
  8. "Make 'em Blind" (4:25)
  9. "Don't Waste Your Time" (2:32)
  10. "In Another Time" (3:09)
  11. "Out of the Sun" (3:43)

I forget exactly when he joined the band, I think it was a few albums before this one, but Mikkey Dee (previously from King Diamond) is the drummer here. I haven't listened to this one hardly at all, so it's hard to say whether the excellent/crappy trend continued, but since the music was unmemorable, I'd say that it has.

"Overnight Sensation"

  1. "Civil War" (3:01)
  2. "Crazy Like a Fox" (4:32)
  3. "I Don't Believe a Word" (6:31)
  4. "Eat the Gun" (2:13)
  5. "Overnight Sensation" (4:10)
  6. "Love Can't Buy You Money" (3:06)
  7. "Broken" (4:34)
  8. "Them Not Me" (2:47)
  9. "Murder Show" (3:03)
  10. "Shake the World" (3:29)
  11. "Listen to Your Heart" (3:45)

Once again, it's a good one! The music is tight, fast and loud, definitely worthy of Motorhead's legacy (the band is back to a trio again, maybe that helped?) Best of all: NO BALLAD!!!!

"Snake Bite Love"

  1. "Love for Sale" (4:52)
  2. "Dogs of War" (3:38)
  3. "Snake Bite Love" (3:30)
  4. "Assassin" (4:48)
  5. "Take the Blame" (4:03)
  6. "Dead and Gone" (4:18)
  7. "Night Side" (3:37)
  8. "Don't Lie to Me" (3:59)
  9. "Joy of Labour" (4:52)
  10. "Desperate for You" (3:27)
  11. "Better off Dead" (3:42)

Haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but so far it sounds just like the same old hard-driving rock they've been recording for decades...a good album, but nothing to wet your pants over.

"Everything Louder Than Everyone Else" (live 2CD)

    disc one:
  1. "Iron Fist" (4:08)
  2. "Stay Clean" (2:48)
  3. "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" (3:20)
  4. "Over Your Shoulder" (3:45)
  5. "Civil War" (3:29)
  6. "Burner" (3:23)
  7. "Metropolis" (4:00)
  8. "Nothing Up My Sleeve" (3:41)
  9. "I'm So Bad Baby I Don't Care" (3:21)
  10. "The Chase is Better Than the Catch" (5:28)
  11. "Take the Blame" (4:20)
  12. "No Class" (3:22)
  13. "Overnight Sensation" (4:38)
  14. "Sacrifice" (3:40)
    disc two:
  1. "Born to Raise Hell" (5:41)
  2. "Lost in the Ozone" (3:43)
  3. "The One to Sing the Blues" (3:25)
  4. "Capricorn" (4:58)
  5. "Love for Sale" (5:04)
  6. "Orgasmatron" (6:36)
  7. "Going to Brazil" (2:52)
  8. "Killed by Death" (6:27)
  9. "Bomber" (5:50)
  10. "Ace of Spades" (4:49)
  11. "Overkill" (7:34)

Wow, a double live album!! Each song is played with brutal intensity, and I certainly appreciate the song selection, with large helpings from 1916 and Bastards, their two best late-era CDs, while ignoring such crappy releases as March or Die and Rock'N'Roll. The liner notes are an interesting read, as Lemmy says how this is the last tour they will be playing such songs as "Stay Clean" and "Metropolis".

"We Are Motörhead"

  1. "See Me Burning" (2:59)
  2. "Slow Dance" (4:29)
  3. "Stay Out of Jail" (3:02)
  4. "God Save the Queen" (3:19)
  5. "Out to Lunch" (3:26)
  6. "Wake the Dead" (5:14)
  7. "One More Fucking Time" (6:46)
  8. "Stagefright/Crash & Burn" (3:02)
  9. "(Wearing Your) Heart on Your Sleeve" (3:42)
  10. "We Are Motörhead" (2:21)

It must be a sign of the band's age when the highlight of the album is the BALLAD "One More Fucking Time", and that's just because of the title!! Sure, the rest is fast and raucous, but no better or worse (or even different) than the fast, raucous music they've been doing since 1978. It's just...Motorhead. Even the cover of the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen" is nothing to get excited over; it's been done better, by Anthrax and Quorthon.

"Hammered"

  1. "Walk a Crooked Mile" (5:53)
  2. "Down the Line" (4:25)
  3. "Brave New World" (4:05)
  4. "Voices from the War" (4:30)
  5. "Mine all Mine" (4:14)
  6. "Shut Your Mouth" (4:08)
  7. "Kill the World" (3:41)
  8. "Dr. Love" (3:51)
  9. "No Remorse" (5:19)
  10. "Red Raw" (4:05)
  11. "Serial Killer"--spoken word (1:57)
  12. "The Game" (3:31)
  13. "Overnight Sensation"--live (4:16)

Another year, another Motorhead album. And now even the song titles are beginning to sound rehashed: "Shut Your Mouth" vs. "Shut You Down", "Dr. Love" vs. "Dr. Rock", hell "No Remorse" is a decades-old ALBUM title. And it appears that a rock band has officially reached old age once they write a song called "Brave New World", a la Iron Maiden or Styx. The only track that sounds halfway inspired is "The Game", which was released a year earlier on some pro wrestling CD. (The last two songs are listed as "bonus tracks", which makes little sense, since this is the only version of this album that exists, as far as I know.)

The webpage I found this animated GIF on said "Don't even THINK about stealing this image!" So, of course, I put it here. I wouldn't have done it if they weren't so damn snotty!
