Nocturnus

Hey, it's "special guest" time again!! Check out this email:

Just a heads up:
1) We are based out of Tampa Florida
2) We have reformed to create yet another deathly sci-fi keyboard and lead infested offering.
3) You can check out 1 minute of a new song "The Killing" at www.pterecords.de
4) We can be directly reached through nocturnus@pterecords.de for interviews or sound offs.
5) Thanks for enjoying us and sorry there were only 2 songs on the last one...

Boy I'm getting popular...although I really did think they were from Holland...

"The Key"

  1. "Lake of Fire" (5:02)
  2. "Standing in Blood" (4:19)
  3. "Visions from Beyond the Grave" (4:07)
  4. "Neolithic" (4:45)
  5. "Undead Journey" (4:14)
  6. "BC/AD" (4:55)
  7. "Andromeda Strain" (3:41)
  8. "Droid Sector" (4:20)
  9. "Destroying the Manger" (6:07)
  10. "Empire of the Sands" (6:31)

The thing that blew me away here was the primary use of KEYBOARDS on this album! No, I'm not talking some atmospheric shit that plagues Dio or Black Sabbath, but actually being used as a lead instrument, with a couple rippin' solos here and there. (Granted, every black metal band these days is heavy into keys, but back in 1990 it was something of a novelty.) Heavy use of Satanic and/or science fiction imagery also provides a nice mix..."Destroying the Manger", for example, is about travelling back in time to kill baby Jesus. Beautiful music! A must-have classic!

"Thresholds"

  1. "Climate Controller" (7:51)
  2. "Tribal Vodoun" (5:17)
  3. "Nocturne in Bm"--instrumental (2:51)
  4. "Arctic Crypt" (4:18)
  5. "Aquatica" (7:18)
  6. "Subterranean Infiltrator" (5:35)
  7. "Alter Reality" (4:28)
  8. "Gridzone" (6:05)

My friend used to own this CD, until some slutwhorebitch stole it (and a special message to that CUNT, in case she ever learns to read: I hope your poster-child-for-domestic-violence boyfriend punches you in the stomach so hard that your colostomy bag explodes, permanently and indelibly staining your grandmother's red wedding dress!!!) But I digress...this follow-up is considerably less exciting than their classic debut, with only minimal keyboards. Special thanks to "Devil Incarnate" for getting me this CD!! (Even though it's just been reissued, the price was still right. :-))

Oh, side note to Earache regarding the liner notes...do NOT use black text on a friggin' black background! That is LAME LAME LAME!!!

"Nocturnus"

  1. "Possess the Priest" (6:05)
  2. "Mummified" (4:29)

Finding this was QUITE a surprise, since I'd never even seen it listed in any of the band's discographies. Sure wish it was more than TWO FUCKING SONGS though! The liner notes solve the mystery of the band's status, since it lists the band members as "Nocturus was..."
