Rage

Just some German metal band that I took interest in when my thrash-metal days began. Their musical direction quickly went into a direction that I didn't like, and frankly I'm surprised that they're still around! (They do a halfway decent version of "Jawbreaker" on the first Judas Priest tribute album.)

"Execution Guaranteed"

  1. "Down by Law" (3:22)
  2. "Execution Guaranteed" (6:49)
  3. "Before the Storm (The Secret Affair)" (4:48)
  4. "Streetwolf" (6:04)
  5. "Deadly Error" (5:06)
  6. "Hatred" (3:55)
  7. "Grapes of Wrath" (5:12)
  8. "Mental Decay" (5:52)
  9. "When You're Dead" (4:29)

I was very surprised to find this one on CD (the band's first album, I think) and even though I owned the crappy vinyl years ago and wasn't impressed, I bought it anyway. A lot better than I remember, actually. Raw and vicious.

"Perfect Man"

  1. "Wasteland" (3:26)
  2. "In the Darkest Hour" (3:15)
  3. "Animal Instinct" (3:43)
  4. "Perfect Man" (3:32)
  5. "Sinister Thinking" (3:17)
  6. "Supersonic Hydromatic" (3:31)
  7. "Don't Fear the Winter" (3:26)
  8. "Death in the Afternoon" (3:56)
  9. "A Pilgrim's Path" (4:26)
  10. "Time and Place" (4:14)
  11. "Round Trip" (3:23)
  12. "Between the Lines" (3:18)
  13. "Symbols of Our Fear" (3:32)
  14. "Neurotic" (2:59)

Now THIS album is a classic. Tight, fast, well-constructed songs, not a weak track to be found! Check out "In the Darkest Hour" and "Pilgrim's Path" especially. The last two songs are CD bonus tracks that weren't on the crappy vinyl.

"Secrets in a Weird World" (CDR)

  1. "Intro (Opus 32 Nr.3) by Serge Prokoviev"--instrumental (0:52)
  2. "Time Waits for No One" (4:46)
  3. "Make My Day" (3:34)
  4. "The Inner Search" (4:34)
  5. "Invisible Horizons" (4:30)
  6. "She" (5:15)
  7. "Light into the Darkness" (4:50)
  8. "Talk to Grandpa" (2:45)
  9. "Distant Voices" (5:45)
  10. "Without a Trace" (9:00)
  11. "Lost Side of the World" (4:49)

I wasn't at all pleased with this CD when it came out, and while it doesn't sound nearly as bad I remember now, I think I'm going to shut down my Rage collection right here. The first song, "Time Waits for No One", is a tremendous rocker, and the 9-minute "Without a Trace" edges on the border of true progressive metal, but those two tracks merely reinforce the banality and pointlessness of the music in between. I copied this CD from my brother's collection, and while I might actually upgrade to a real copy someday, I don't want to do that right now...because, it will open the door for me to break down and buy ALL the rest of their CDs, and they've got like 12 now!!! And I simply can't afford that. I even scanned & printed the artwork, to make it an even stronger "buffer zone" between my paltry collection and the rest of their volumnious discography. :)
