REO Speedwagon

For many years, the absence of any REO Speedwagon CDs has been like a stinking hole in my collection. At last, that oversight has been rectified!

"Hi Infidelity"

  1. "Don't Let Him Go" (3:46)
  2. "Keep on Loving You" (3:22)
  3. "Follow My Heart" (3:50)
  4. "In Your Letter" (3:17)
  5. "Take It on the Run" (4:00)
  6. "Tough Guys" (3:50)
  7. "Out of Season" (3:07)
  8. "Shakin' it Loose" (2:25)
  9. "Someone Tonight" (2:40)
  10. "I Wish You Were There" (4:28)

Actually, my original plan was to buy the "Hits" compilation and be done with it, except for one problem...that album didn't contain "In Your Letter"!!! After years of wondering what to do, I finally ran across this used copy. Guess I'll worry about the rest later...

This was the best-selling album of 1980, if you can believe them apples (people actually buying music for the MUSIC instead of some hip pop trend, that is.) It's also one of the first albums I ever bought on crappy vinyl, although I sold it off long ago. Back then, I was mainly interested in the hits: "Keep on Loving You" (arguably the first power ballad ever, predating Journey's "Open Arms" by almost a year), "Take It on the Run", "Don't Let Him Go" (man that song KICKS ASS!!) and the aforementioned IYL. The rest I really didn't appreciate until catching a few snippets from the recent "Behind the Music" episode, and this music has indeed stood the test of time quite well. There's a few pedestrian numbers, like "Shakin' it Loose" and "I Wish You Were There"; but Gary Richrath chops out some delightful licks in "Follow My Heart" and "Tough Guys". (Heh, I just now remember how shocked I was that they said "shit" in the latter song...god I had a repressed childhood.)
