Sabbat

There's another metal band out there called Sabbat, which made it really annoying when I went searching for information on this band...

"History of a Time to Come"

  1. "Intro" (2:00)
  2. "A Cautionary Tale" (4:15)
  3. "Hosanna in Excelsis" (4:00)
  4. "Behind the Crooked Cross" (6:00)
  5. "Horned is the Hunter" (8:08)
  6. "I for an Eye" (5:22)
  7. "For Those Who Died" (6:23)
  8. "A Dead Man's Robe"--instrumental (4:48)
  9. "The Church Bizarre" (5:07)

Martin Walkyier's (sp?) vocals take a bit of getting used to, but the music overall is fast and vicious. "A Cautionary Tale" is about the Tragedy of Faustus (you know, the guy who sold his soul to Satan for unending earthly pleasures)--it even includes the part where Mestopheles appears as a hideous demon and Faustus tells him to return as a Franciscan friar, which was my favorite part of that play. :) And no, "Behind the Crooked Cross" has nothing to do with the Slayer song of the same name...

"Dreamweaver"

  1. "The Beginning of the End (Intro)" (0:35)
  2. "The Clerical Conspiracy" (5:35)
  3. "Advent of Insanity" (2:27)
  4. "Do Dark Horses Dream of Nightmares?" (6:26)
  5. "The Best of Enemies" (8:22)
  6. "How Have the Mighty Fallen?" (8:15)
  7. "Wildfire" (4:36)
  8. "Mythistory" (6:45)
  9. "Happy Never After (Outro)" (1:02)

A lot of WORDS in these songs--the lyrics sheet is something like 14 pages long!! The first time I found this CD it was scratched to hell, a disaster since it was long out of print...I wound up buying a friend's copy.

After Dreamweaver, Martin left the band to form Skyclad, a "folk metal" (!) band -- Sabbat put out one more CD with a new lead singer, which was pretty worthless, and then broke up.
