Skid Row

Skid Row was one of the few pop-metal bands that me and my "real" hard-core metal friends could appreciate and respect. Their fan base seems to have waned, since I routinely find their CDs selling for $4.99 or less.

"Skid Row"

  1. "Big Guns" (3:36)
  2. "Sweet Little Sister" (3:10)
  3. "Can't Stand the Heartache" (3:24)
  4. "Piece of Me" (2:48)
  5. "18 and Life" (3:50)
  6. "Rattlesnake Shake" (3:07)
  7. "Youth Gone Wild" (3:18)
  8. "Here I Am" (3:10)
  9. "Makin' a Mess" (3:38)
  10. "I Remember You" (5:10)
  11. "Midnight/Tornado" (4:17)

Their thundering debut...so to speak. I had a tape of this album, and the first time I bought the CD, there was a HUGE skip in the middle of "18 & Life" so had to return it. It was several years before I finally got a replacement copy (not that it was hard to find, just didn't care.) The more popular songs--"Youth Gone Wild", "I Remember You"--REALLY get on my nerves these days.

"Slave to the Grind"

  1. "Monkey Business" (4:17)
  2. "Slave to the Grind" (3:31)
  3. "The Threat" (3:47)
  4. "Quicksand Jesus" (5:21)
  5. "Psycho Love" (3:58)
  6. "Get the Fuck Out" (2:42)
  7. "Livin' on a Chain Gang" (3:56)
  8. "Creepshow" (3:56)
  9. "In a Darkened Room" (4:57)
  10. "Riot Act" (2:40)
  11. "Mudkicker" (3:50)
  12. "Wasted Time" (5:46)

Some great songs here, but a few were way overplayed. I bought this for $1.99 and don't think I've listened to it more than once....on the other hand, "Get the Fuck Out" was deleted from future releases, so this particular item has suddenly become a collector's item. :)

"B-Side Ourselves"

  1. "Psychotherapy" (2:30)
  2. "C'mon and Love Me" (3:23)
  3. "Delivering the Goods"--live, featuring Rob Halford (4:54)
  4. "What You're Doing" (4:26)
  5. "Little Wing" (3:19)

A true sign of egomania--putting out an EP of nothing but cover tunes. Well, cover tunes are my weak spot so it works for me. :) What's really interesting here is Rush's "What You're Doing", as far as I know it is the only Rush song which has ever been covered! Judas Priest's Halford joining in on "Delivering the Goods" is also a nice surprise. The other three songs were originally done by The Ramones, Kiss, and Jimi Hendrix. (Skid Row also covers the Sex Pistols tune "Holidays in the Sun" on the compilation album Stairway to Heaven, Highway to Hell.)
