Sting

Former lead singer of The Police...of course, you knew that already, didn't you?

"The Dream of the Blue Turtles"

  1. "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" (4:16)
  2. "Love is the Seventh Wave" (3:32)
  3. "Russians" (3:58)
  4. "Childrens Crusade" (5:01)
  5. "Shadows in the Rain" (4:50)
  6. "We Work the Black Seam" (5:42)
  7. "Consider Me Gone" (4:20)
  8. "The Dream of the Blue Turtles"--instrumental (1:17)
  9. "Moon Over Bourbon Street" (4:00)
  10. "Fortress Around Your Heart" (4:39)

Sting's first solo album is quite a departure from his music with The Police, who had permanently broken up by this point. Lots of crap, shit pop songs (esp. "Love is the Seventh Wave", which mocks the lyrics to "Every breath you take...every cake you bake" uhh YEAH whatever!) but there's some real gems on here, especially "Russians" (a creepy song that doesn't have the same resonance now that the Cold War is over), "Moon Over Bourbon Street" (yay, the Vampire Lestat!), "We Work the Black Seam" ("One day in a nuclear age..." yeah, it's outdated too), and the genuinely beautiful "Fortress Around Your Heart". There's also a jazzed-up remake of "Shadows in the Rain", which is superior to the Police's version IMHO.

"Bring on the Night" (2CD live set--PERSONALLY AUTOGRAPHED!!!)

    disc one:
  1. "Bring on the Night/When the World is Running Down You Make the Best of What's Still Around" (11:42)
  2. "Consider Me Gone" (4:51)
  3. "Low Life" (4:05)
  4. "We Work the Black Seam" (6:56)
  5. "Driven to Tears" (6:59)
  6. "The Dream of the Blue Turtles/Demolition Man" (5:54)
    disc two:
  1. "One World (Not Three)/Love is the Seventh Wave" (11:09)
  2. "Moon Over Bourbon Street" (4:21)
  3. "I Burn for You" (5:23)
  4. "Another Day" (4:42)
  5. "Children's Crusade" (5:26)
  6. "Down so Long" (4:35)
  7. "Tea in the Sahara" (6:25)

I used to work security in a resort area where Sting lived, and struck up a friendship with some guy who worked for him. I finally managed to get him to have Sting autograph a couple of my CD's...yeah, baby!! (I'm not sure what happened to my copy of Nothing Like the Sun, though...probably sold it like an idiot.)

Oh yeah, gotta talk about the music...well, this is a nice, jazzy live album, with many Police songs done in a completely different style. That's all I can think to say about it...
