Oooh yeah...with a band name like this, it's no wonder why every parent and
right-wing activist in America hates them. In fact, their early shows were so violent
that Los Angeles passed an ordinance banning them from performing anywhere within the
city limits!! (I think it was lifted a few years ago, though.)
"Suicidal Tendencies"
- "Suicide's an Alternative/You'll be Sorry" (2:40)
- "Two Sided Politics" (1:02)
- "I Shot the Devil" (1:49)
- "Subliminal" (3:06)
- "Won't Fall in Love Today" (0:56)
- "Institutionalized" (3:47)
- "Memories of Tomorrow" (0:57)
- "Possessed" (2:04)
- "I Saw Your Mommy..." (4:50)
- "Fascist Pig" (1:15)
- "I Want More" (2:23)
- "Suicidal Failure" (2:52)
Hmm...a few Anglos & Latinos from a Venice street gang join together to record a
punk album...what a masterpiece! (I don't think I've seen ANY other album with as
many references to suicide as this one!) "Institutionalized" was even a major video
hit, and I gotta say I just loved that song: "All I wanted was a Pepsi, and SHE
WOULDN'T GIVE IT TO ME!! JUST ONE PEPSI!!" Other classic tracks include
"I Saw Your Mommy (And Your Mommy Was Dead)" and "Suicidal Failure".
(Of course, the band had to go and do the most atrocious thing any band can
do, which was to completely rerecord this whole album as Still Cyco After All These
Years...I haven't heard it, but I'm steering way clear of it, believe you me!!)
"Join the Army"
- "Suicidal Maniac" (2:57)
- "Join the Army" (3:38)
- "You Got I Want" (2:55)
- "A Little Each Day" (4:09)
- "The Prisoner" (2:54)
- "War Inside My Head" (3:51)
- "I Feel Your Pain" (3:27)
- "Human Guinea Pig" (2:06)
- "Possessed to Skate" (2:34)
- "No Name, No Words" (2:35)
- "Cyco" (2:13)
- "Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right (But They Make Me Feel a Whole Lot Better)" (2:50)
- "Looking in Your Eyes" (2:50)
For some odd reason, I remember reading somewhere that the band put out an album
called "Venice Beach" or something between this one and their debut, but I haven't
been able to confirm it? Anyway, this one turned out to be their transition from
punk to regular thrash metal. "Possessed to Skate" and "War Inside My Head" are the
best tunes here.
"How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today"
- "Trip at the Brain" (4:31)
- "Hearing Voices" (4:12)
- "Pledge Your Allegiance" (4:30)
- "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow" (6:42)
- "The Miracle" (5:26)
- "Suicyco Mania" (5:52)
- "Surf and Slam" (2:50)
- "If I Don't Wake Up" (4:52)
- "Sorry?!" (3:47)
- "One Too Many Times" (3:12)
- "The Feeling's Back" (4:04)
I bought this one without having heard Join the Army, and boy was it a
shocker...not a trace of their original sound here, in fact Mike Muir was the only
original member left! And there's just too many damn annoying tracks here -- like
that "Surf and Slam" quasi-instrumental, and the dumb "SUICIDAL! SUICIAL!"
chant at the end of "Pledge Your Allegiance"...ah well, maybe I should give it another
listen and see if it's grown on me yet...
"Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Deja Vu"
- "Master of No Mercy" (2:38)
- "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow"--video edit (4:42)
- "Just Another Love Song" (3:16)
- "Waking the Dead" (6:54)
- "Controlled by Hatred" (5:29)
- "Choosing My Own Way of Life" (3:05)
- "Feel Like Shit...Deja Vu" (2:54)
- "It's Not Easy" (4:00)
- "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow"--"heavy emotion version" (6:32)
Now I'm confused...is this new material, or stuff from earlier EPs? Can't really
tell, except that it's DEFINITELY a lot better than their previous album. Except, of
course, for the two ridiculous variants of "How Will I Laugh..."
"Lights...Camera...Revolution!"
- "You Can't Bring Me Down" (5:48)
- "Lost Again" (5:15)
- "Alone" (4:23)
- "Lovely" (3:44)
- "Give it Revolution" (4:20)
- "Get Whacked" (4:22)
- "Send Me Your Money" (3:21)
- "Emotion No. 13" (3:41)
- "Disco's Out, Murder's In" (3:06)
- "Go'n Breakdown" (4:38)
Ahh...NOW we're getting somewhere. ST finally comes into their own on this album,
their best to date. I just love the desperate aggression in "You Can't Bring
Me Down" (a little side note...on my college radio show, the station manager came in
to check up on things while I was playing this song, and wouldn't you know it just
happened to be the part where Mike Muir said, "Just one other thing...FUCK YOU!"
Was very nearly the last show I did...)
"The Art of Rebellion"
- "Can't Stop" (6:38)
- "Accept My Sacrifice" (3:28)
- "Nobody Hears" (5:32)
- "Tap into the Power" (3:41)
- "Monopoly on Sorrow" (5:10)
- "We Call this Mutha Revenge" (4:48)
- "I Wasn't Meant to Feel This/Asleep at the Wheel" (7:05)
- "Gotta Kill Captain Stupid" (3:59)
- "I'll Hate You Better" (4:16)
- "Which Way to Free?" (4:26)
- "It's Going Down" (4:26)
- "Where's the Truth" (4:13)
Another fine album, though quite a bit more streamlined & commercial. Still, I
gotta admit I like it. Maybe it's even better than Lights...Camera...??
Hard to say...oh yeah, Mikey started up his side project Infectious
Grooves sometime around this time...
"Suicidal for Life"
- "Invocation" (1:00)
- "Don't Give a Fuck!" (2:46)
- "No Fuck'n Problem" (3:32)
- "Suicyco Muthafucka" (4:27)
- "Fucked Up Just Right" (4:59)
- "No Bullshit" (3:13)
- "What Else Could I Do?" (5:59)
- "What You Need's a Friend" (3:55)
- "I Wouldn't Mind" (4:24)
- "Depression and Anguish" (3:02)
- "Evil" (3:44)
- "Love vs. Loneliness" (6:57)
- "Benediction" (1:02)
You just know this album's gonna be brutal when the first four songs have "FUCK"
in the title, right? ST really gets back to the basics here, discarding the mainstream
pop-metal tendencies that had been creeping into their music. It's BRUTAL thrash!!
Too bad they broke up right after this one...
