The Traveling Wilburys

When measured in terms of sheer talent, this is perhaps the greatest "supergroup" of all time: Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, former Beatle George Harrison, and ELO tunesmith Jeff Lynne.

"Volume 1" (CDR)

  1. "Handle with Care" (3:21)
  2. "Dirty World" (3:31)
  3. "Rattled" (3:01)
  4. "Last Night" (3:53)
  5. "Not Alone Any More" (3:27)
  6. "Congratulations" (3:31)
  7. "Heading for the Light" (3:38)
  8. "Margarita" (3:18)
  9. "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" (5:29)
  10. "End of the Line" (3:26)

I was working security when some record industry suit came through the gate and handed me a cassette version of this album. Too bad the cheap motherfucker didn't give me a CD, since it's currently out of print and sells for up to $30 on eBay!!! Strangely, the deaths of Orbison and Harrison didn't spike the price all that much...but it's still too expensive for my meager budget, which is why I'm settling on a CDR copy (for now.) Tom Petty seems to be the dominant vocalist/songwriter here, since I'm always confusing "Handle with Care" with "I Won't Back Down" (from his solo CD Full Moon Fever which was released around the same time.) "Tweeter" is my favorite track, a story-based tune which is pure Bob Dylan -- kinda strange, since I normally don't like his crappy folk music.

The band put out a second CD called Volume 3 (no, there is no Volume 2) but since Roy Orbison had died by that point, it just wasn't the same without his voice. So I don't think I'll ever get it, CDR or no.
