I think this one takes the prize for the *rarest* mainstream CD to appear in the used bins. Since I started buying CDs in 1986, I've seen it...well, NEVER!!! In fact, I was just about ready to give up and purchase a NEW copy, when I lucked out and got this one from Second Spin. Those guys have saved my ass so many times, it's frightening!!

Okay. Everyone, including non-metal fans, should remember this one from the heady days of the PMRC witchhunt, which culminated with lead singer Dee Snider testifying before Congress, alongside Frank Zappa and John Denver. (What a trio THAT would have made, huh?) Taking most of the heat was the song "We're Not Gonna Take It", which made the PMRC's "Filthy Fifteen" purely based on its supposedly violent music video (despite the fact that it was no more violent than your average Roadrunner cartoon.) Ok, a word about that song -- it's dumb. The lyrics are dumb, the chorus is dumb, the whole main guitar riff is dumb. But dammit, it's SO MUCH FUN!!!!! And that's all you need for a great song, right? How intelligent was "Louie, Louie"? Sadly, the follow-up "I Wanna Rock" was merely a retread of the same theme, with the same loony video, and the same rebellious transvestite attitude; and releasing "The Price" as a single probably quickened the band's descent into obscurity even faster.

But the real MEAT of the album isn't with the singles. It starts out with one of the most powerful album-opening title tracks of all time, and progresses from there to songs even more dark and eeeevil, namely "Burn in Hell", "Captain Howdy" and "The Beast". "Don't Let Me Down" is pure filler, but "S.M.F." (which stands for "Sick Mother Fucker") closes the album on quite a powerful note...I especially like how it just ENDS, when you fully expect another verse or an outro or something. In any case, this CD is a definite must-have for any metal fan's collection, despite the fact that the band itself has completely sucked with everything they've done before or since...
