Type O Negative
Hmm, I really should get into this band more...their cover of "Black Sabbath" on Nativity
in Black is also essential.

Hard to believe now, but when I first heard this album, I didn't like it at all. (Probably
because of that annoying, overlong "BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK NUMBER WUH-HU-UHHN!!" song.)
But after catching snippets of it here and there, and just being blown away by how fucking
DEEP the lead singer's voice was, finally figured I'd give it a second chance. Whoo-yeah!
Awesome stuff here, how the HELL did I ever think I disliked it? "Christian Woman", a song
about some nun being raped by the Holy Spirit, is delightfully blasphemous.
"Death in the Family" is an AWESOME paen about some chick who kills herself: "No love in
life, could not be saved, she took them both to the grave..." "Kill All the White People"
reflects what I'm thinking about 95% of the time! And finally, there's "We Hate Everyone",
which reflects what I'm thinking ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the time!! Brilliant album! It has
no equal in the world!

- "Haunted" (10:07)
- "Untitled"--spoken word (0:08)
A weird start to this CD...first a short blast of static, followed by some stoned-out
band comments, and THEN the music starts. NOW...about the music, well, it's dark, moody,
atmospheric and definitely TON-ish. Not at all bad on its own, but it's totally lacking
the super-slow suicidal dirges that made Bloody Kisses a total classic. Heck, it's
downright UPBEAT in parts! Well, it just proves again how difficult it is to follow up a
timeless classic. Oh yeah, there's a final message from Peter Steele where he says, "Hope
the album wasn't too disappointing"...ah Pete, if I could only tell ya...
"World Coming Down"
- "Skip It"--instrumental (0:11)
- "White Slavery" (8:21)
- "Sinus"--instrumental (0:53)

- "Liver"--instrumental (1:42)
- "World Coming Down" (11:10)
- "Creepy Green Light" (6:56)
- "Everything Dies" (7:43)
- "Lung"--instrumental (1:36)
- "Pyretta Blaze" (6:57)
- "All Hallows Eve" (8:35)
- "Day Tripper (medley)" (7:02)
I'm starting to wonder if Bloody Kisses was just a fluke or if that album simply
spoiled me for all other goth music. Although this one's a definite improvement over
October Rust, only "White Slavery" even comes close to the dark ennui that made
"Christian Woman" and "A Death in the Family" so entrancing, and the two most promising titles
("Everyone I Love is Dead" and "Everything Dies") are pathetically dull. And while a few
songs like "Who Will Save the Sane?" and "Pyretta Blaze" manage to build some great
atmosphere, the obligatory cover song (originally by the Beatles,
of course) is their worst to date.
Also, I'm getting pissed that the band refuses to list the songs anywhere on the outside
cover!
