"As Ugly As They Wanna Be"The most interesting thing about this band is that they hail from Santa Barbara, CA (or was it Ventura? can't remember...) which kinda makes 'em "local boys" for me. :) As for their musically ability...well, that's a different story. "Madman" has a catchy hard-rock riff to it, "Funky Fresh Country Club" is kinda, well, funky; and "(I Hate) Everything About You", of course, was a big smash on MTv back in the day. (And I purely HATED that song, until I finally listened to the words! Still find it kind of annoying, though...) The other songs...well, they suck. And in fact, I really have no reason to own this CD...except that they do a short version of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf", which unfortunately makes it a necessity. (You know how these things go.) This debut EP is currently out of print, but hardly rare...Second Spin has a big stack of 'em for $1.99 apiece, last time I checked.
As for the rest of their music...well, the followup America's Least Wanted was PURE garbage -- with that horrid "Neighbor" song (featuring that asexual "Pat" character from SNL...whoohee), and a downright PUTRID cover of "Cats in the Cradle" (not that they did a bad version, but I personally feel that's a song NO ONE should try and cover!) On the other hand, U.K.J. did contribute a nice version of "N.I.B." to the Black Sabbath tribute album Nativity in Black...hey, wait a minute, is THAT what "N.I.B." really stands for?? I've always wondered....
