Ultimatum

Lead singer Scott Waters contacted me directly and offered to send me a free copy of Puppet of Destruction in exchange for a review. So...does this mean I'm selling out? Well, if it means getting free CDs...HELL YEAH!!! :)

"Puppet of Destruction"

  1. "Never" (4:03)
  2. "Mortal Stomp" (5:32)
  3. "Scorn" (4:45)
  4. "Puppet of Destruction" (4:19)
  5. "Gutterbox" (5:02)
  6. "Repentance" (4:02)
  7. "World of Sin" (4:57)
  8. "Crosshope" (4:35)
  9. "Conform to Reality" (3:26)
  10. "Charged/Power" (4:53)

First time I listened to this I thought, "Holy shit, did Exodus reform or what??" Well, the music isn't that similar, being standard thrash a little more technical than Exodus, but the vocals are a dead ringer for Steve Sousa! Quite nostalgic. Overall, there's nothing spectacular about this CD, but there's nothing disappointing about it either -- a nice diversion, and certainly worth the price I paid. :)) (And thanks for taking that crappy Saxon CD off my hands, Scott!)

"The Mechanics of Perilous Times"

  1. "Temple of the Spirit" (3:20)
  2. "Greed Regime, Inc." (7:25)
  3. "Perilous Times" (4:40)
  4. "Shroud of Science" (4:01)
  5. "Crash Course" (5:33)
  6. "Warlord's Sword" (3:54)
  7. "The Purging" (7:25)
  8. "Burn" (3:49)
  9. "MutaMitlu"--instrumental (5:18)
  10. "Violence & Bloodshed" (3:20)

Now this is more like it! Top-notch old-school thrash, still very much in the Exodus vein but hey, that band's been broken up for years so this is a worthy replacement. I especially like the long songs "Greed Regime" and "The Purging". Definitely recommended to all those nostalgic for the old days...

Hey, I just looked at the liner notes and whaddaya know, they're a CHRISTIAN band...how cool. Can't say I care for the "instructions" on how to accept Jesus into your life, reminds me too much of a Jack Chick tract...
