John Waite

As mentioned on my Babys page (John Waite's original band; he's also done lead vocals for Bad English), all Babys/Waite CDs are out of print and fetch insane prices at auction. This one cost me $22, which I basically got on impulse because the auction was about to close at $14.50, and NO WAY was I gonna let someone else get it that cheap!!!!

"No Brakes"

  1. "Saturday Night" (2:46)
  2. "Missing You" (4:29)
  3. "Dark Side of the Sun" (3:59)
  4. "Restless Heart" (4:30)
  5. "Tears" (3:58)
  6. "Euroshima" (5:08)
  7. "Dreamtime/Shake it Up" (5:10)
  8. "For Your Love" (3:41)
  9. "Love Collision" (3:52)

The essential track here is "Restless Heart", my absolute favorite song while a senior in high school; in fact, it inspired a short story I wrote for my Creative Writing class, about a serial killer/child rapist who feels attached to this song in some obscure way. (People who've read that story say that if THEY wrote such a thing in high school, they would have been expelled...guess I'm lucky my teacher was pretty damn liberal! I've considered posting the story here, but I'm afraid that it might violate federal obscenity laws......)

The rest of the CD is pretty cool, with the exception of that vomit-inducing pop hit "Missing You" (ACK! GAG ME!!) -- "Euroshima" even turns a bit of a progressive groove. Suffice to say this is all the John Waite I think I'll ever need (with the exception of "Change", from the Vision Quest soundtrack); no way am I gonna pay $150 for Mask of Smiles...yikes!!!
