Requiem -- the demo collection

It took over a year for this magnificent 32-level megawad to get released, but it's finally here. Made by some of the most talented and skilled Doom builders in the world (Iikka Keränen, Adelusion, Dario Casali, etc.) this level set brings the art of Doom-ing to a whole new level! If you liked Memento Mori II or Dystopia 3, you will LOVE Requiem. Special effects abound, including bridges you can go over and under (supposedly impossible with Doom's engine), sector over sector, areas where rockets don't harm you :) -- and, of course, the obligatory archvile-created ghost monster effect. Some levels are easy while others are for experienced players only....

!!! STOP PRESS !!! The "DOOM LEVEL LORDS" have done it again! This time, with a brand spanking-new collection of Requiem demos. All times from the original are improved (in some cases heavily!) and there are *three* map30 demos to chose from, along with a special map21.wad so you can actually watch a demo for that level that works. :-) The players here are Adam Hegyi, Adam Williamson, Chrozoron, Mike "Prower" Reid and Rudy Jurjako. !!!!!!!! STOP PRESS AGAIN !!!!!!!! Okay, I didn't just do this because A. Williamson beat my time. Honest, I didn't. :-) In fact, I couldn't break the 8-minute barrier for the longest time. Then one day it happened -- got a MIND-BOGGLING FAST time of 7:27 on map 22 "Arachnophobia"! So I decided to record a few sessions, hoping that lightning would strike a second time. A few tries later, it happened! Exact same time! True story!! Here it is: "Arachnophobia" (Requiem map22) -- R22-727.LMP

!!!!! STOP PRESS AGAIN AGAIN !!!!!

Well, I made the grave error of showing Adam W. my 7:27 demo for Req22...within hours, he slaughtered my time with a super-fast 6:51! Not to be outdone, I worked out a few route optimizations, and some 6 to 8 hours later, had a MINDBLOWINGLY fast 6:28!! It didn't last, though...Adam basically copped my route and came up with a somewhat faster 6:16 time. Well that about did it for me...

But wait, THERE'S MORE! Turns out another player named GeMiNi (don't know his real name) caught wind of the grudge-fest, made a few MORE route changes, and submitted to Adam an ultra-fast 5:58!! Well, I suggested a few more changes (namely, leaving those stupid imps at the beginning for later), and lo and behold, Adam W. grabbed the lead with a nearly unbeatable time of 5:43. Will the madness ever stop? We shall see...

Of course, all this doesn't mean much if you don't already have Requiem v1.0. There is also an info pak available, but you really don't need it, since it only contains information that is already in the text file...

• REQ14-JH.LMP -- Nothing remarkable about this one, except that I run out of ammo and have to punch out the final archvile. Time = 13:09.
• R16-805.LMP -- Another updated time by Adam Williamson. Nice work!
• REQ23-JH.LMP -- This lmp turned into one of the most hilarious recordings I've ever done. The first part goes smoothly, including a rapid execution of the ghost SS soldiers. But then comes the 2-cyberdemon battle, where I decorate the walls with BFG shots and wind up killing them with practically no ammo left. At that point I had serious doubts about completing the level. Yet I persevere, clearing out the final area room by room (including a near-death scene at the 3rd cybie), and finally snuff out the boss brain's life -- at the expense of my own! Time = 18:35.
